  • 80-hectare farm estate in the Verdon Natural Regional Park
  • Meet llamas, ponies, donkeys, turtles, peacocks and more
  • Within an hour's drive of Fréjus and the Verdon Gorge
Cor, just take a look at those Verdon views… and there be llamas roaming around these parts too. And heaps and heaps of space: Var site Ferme Saint Pierre keeps its visitor numbers low, and has 80 hectares of private estate on which to ramble, cycle and play – or just settle down with a book under a tree. Based in the Verdon Natural Regional Park near the old village of Bargème, Saint Pierre is a family-friendly organic working farm owned and run by Carina and Berté. It's in a splendidly scenic setting about 17km from the fab Verdon Gorge: right now is about the time to take a long look at these lovely site pics. A right menagerie is ready on the farm for the kids to meet: donkeys, llamas, chickens, ducks, peacocks, guinea fowl, turkeys, turtles and more all roam here, and ponies are resident too for kids to have pony rides for a small fee. The llamas can be walked around the estate, as can the piglet – better farm holiday pics might not be found elsewhere in the land… You'll likely be out and about rambling around the highly viewsome surrounds all day when staying here, but for when you're around on site, Saint Pierre has a playground, a pétanque court, a ping pong table and a big trampoline for bouncing about in this spectacularly scenic backdrop. For indoor and alfresco eats, a communal kitchen with dining table is in one of the farm buildings, and barbecues are allowed by pitches. A colourful bathroom you won't find elsewhere is also on site: again, do take a look at the site pics…

Local attractions

The farm is in the Verdon Natural Regional Park, a popular spot for hiking, walking and cycling, and with the regional (and France, and Europe, and worldwide) must-see of the Verdon Gorge, the 25-kilometre canyon scored into the landscape by the Verdon river. The gorge is about 17 kilometres from the farm; prepare to spend a few day trips hiking, swimming and snapping many pics here. If you want to village hop, get to beaut Bargème first, the farm's closest settlement and the highest town in all of the Var, and then to hilltop Seillans 12 kilometres away; two more Plus Beaux Villages of France in Tourtour and Moustiers 27km and 31km away, and another toppingly scenic spot in Gourdon 33km away, where some scenes were shot for the 2012 version of Les Miserables were shot. Ancient Frejus and its cathedral is under 40km. Three markets are within driving distance: Castellane every Saturday (14km); Fayence on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (15km), and Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey, held every Sunday 23km away.
