  • Peaceful glamping site in the Gorges du Verdon Natural Park
  • A 10-minute drive from Sainte-Croix Lake and 40 from Gorges du Verdon
  • Fully-equipped kitchen on site, with home-grown organic veg to buy
If you’re after a bit of greenery to revive your spirit, you can hardly go wrong with a site called Camping Arbre de Vie, can you? And indeed there’s much to inspire guests here, as the rural Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur site is at the back of an organic market gardening farm, with just a handful of bell tents spread around a spacious 1.5-hectare meadow that’s surrounded by forest. All of this is part of the Gorges du Verdon Natural Park, a kilometre from Montagnac-Montpezat’s village centre. It’s not just about the setting though – the six-metre tents are pretty fab too. Each one has an electricity supply and is furnished with a double bed (plus space for extras), a coffee table and chairs, with carpets underfoot to keep toes warm. A gravel path leads the way to the tents; it’s lit by coloured solar lamps by night to help you find your way. A short stroll away are the communal facilities: hot showers, toilets and a kitchen with a fridge, oven, hob, microwave, toaster and coffee maker and plenty of utensils (in fact, everything you’ll need to cook with the veg you can buy on the farm). The building is air-conditioned and accessible for guests with reduced mobility, and has a sofa and a large table and chairs for dining or socialising. Free wifi is available in and around this building. Just outside the building is another social space with a large table and chairs for outdoor dining. If you’re not in the mood for cooking, the site team can provide breakfasts and dinners (just let them know when you book).

Local attractions

Want to see a bit more of the gorgeous countryside all around (oui, merci)? Head over to Sainte-Croix Lake (10 minutes’ drive) for walks, watersports and swims, saddle up for horseback outings (15 minutes) or take fragrant strolls around the Valensole plateau (half an hour), home to the largest lavender fields in the world. Speaking of large things, the Gorges du Verdon (40 minutes) have something to contribute on that front too – they’re famed as the largest gorges in all of Europe. Stop by at the Gorges du Verdon Prehistory Museum (15 minutes) to find out about its origins, then continue on to the craggy area itself for scenic drives, hikes or kayak outings. More attractive ambles can be had in the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie (half an hour), a pretty place with waterfalls and a 13th-century abbey. If the nippers are tiring of such things, take them to the bright colours of L’Art En Jouet Playmobil Museum (25 minutes).
