Get set for a good dose of peaceful time in the Vienne countryside. Camping Moulin de Saza, a rural site about a kilometre from Le Vigeant, is a quiet place to take a break, whether you’re planning full-on relaxation or somewhere to chill out in between active outings. There are various adventures on offer in the local area – starting with the famous 47-metre bungee jump from the viaduct in nearby L’Isle-Jourdain. Those who don’t feel quite brave enough for that can instead stroll along the banks of the river Vienne or take a foodie tour of the town’s cafés and restaurants. There are also several medieval towns with markets and castles within a short drive; Confolens and its riverfront castle, for example, are half an hour’s drive away from the site. Chilling out on site is an option too – perhaps at the outdoor swimming pool (open in high season only), which is surrounded by sun loungers for comfy sunbathing days. You could also take a leisurely stroll around the grounds, ending up at the small stream where kids can paddle, play and build dams for a bit of nature-inspired entertainment. Bring your fishing kit too, as there’s a lake in the woods about a minute’s walk away. This is a small and quiet site rather than one with lots of facilities and organised activities, but it’s got all the essentials in place for a comfortable and convenient break. Spacious pitches are surrounded by greenery and have access to modern, clean amenities including two showers (one of these being a practical family shower) and three toilets.

Love a good hit of adrenaline? You’re certainly likely to get that if you take on the giant bungee jump from the viaduct in L’Isle-Jourdain (five minutes’ drive). That’s not the only option, either – you can also try the ziplines and high ropes courses at Parc de l’envol or watch thrilling races at Circuit du Val de Vienne (both five minutes) or head to Watersportsijd86 (10 minutes) for waterskiing and wakeboarding. Several of these activities have kids’ options, but there are also plenty of family-friendly attractions nearby – try the likes of La Planète des Crocodiles (half an hour) and La Vallée Des Singes (35 minutes) for animal encounters, or Futuroscope (50 minutes) for futuristic rides, shows and exhibits. Time to dial the pace down a little? Stroll around attractive medieval towns like Confolens (half an hour) and Chauvigny (40 minutes) – the latter has no fewer than five castles to visit. Religious buildings like Abbaye Royale de la Réau (10 minutes) and Abbaye de Saint-Savin (45 minutes) – nicknamed the Romanesque Sistine Chapel – are worth including as well.

Electric grass pitch

Liked For a quiet restful break this site is second to none. Over the years I have had many holidays of this type and this site is up there with the very best of them.

The hosts Aliki and Jeroen were so helpful and attentive and nothing you needed was a problem to them, even the croissants were delivered to our camp in the morning, and at the time you wanted them. Beat that.

The swimming pool area was fantastic, well maintained and a great area to relax and have a cooling dip.

If you are in the area and looking for a peaceful, relaxing time, please give this site serious consideration.
