Liked 10/10 – The Perfect Campsite Experience

We’ve just returned from what can only be described as a truly memorable stay. From the moment we arrived, Kurt and Nadia made us feel incredibly welcome—like we were visiting old friends rather than just checking into a campsite. Their hospitality sets this place apart.

The site itself is stunning: peaceful, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully set up for guests to relax and enjoy their time outdoors. The showers were spotless with great water pressure (a rare find at many campsites!), and the food was genuinely fantastic—homemade, fresh, and shared with real care.

One of the highlights was the sense of community they’ve created. We instantly felt part of the family, not just with Kurt and Nadia but also with their wonderful collection of animals. Sharing space with their friendly dogs, the cats, and of course, Barbara the pig, made the experience even more special.

This campsite is a rare gem and one we’ll definitely return to. If you’re looking for somewhere with heart, warmth, and outstanding facilities, this is it.

Liked There are not enough words to describe how fabulous the site, the facilities and more importantly the hosts.

It is a well run family business with guests not wanting for anything including conversation after dinner.

It is well worth a visit.

Disliked Nothing to dislike!

Liked We liked everything about the site, it was set in the owners garden with a variety of fruit trees a really tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. The owners are brilliant they really can’t do enough to make sure you stay with them is as enjoyable as possible. There’s three adorable dogs and a pot belly pig to help the unique atmosphere of the place, you’ve got experience it to understand.

Disliked There is nothing to dislike at all. Pays de Joie translates to Happy Land and it certainly is.

Local attractions

When the kids hear about the 4D rides and IMAX screens at Futuroscope (50 minutes’ drive), you probably won’t get a moment’s peace until you agree to spend the day there. Animal-mad youngsters may well love the free-ranging primates at La Vallée des Singes monkey sanctuary (20 minutes), and you can sneak in a history lesson when visiting the Grottes du Chaffaud (15 minutes), where prehistoric bones and tools have been found. Need to work off energy? Head for the waterslides at lakeside Plan d’eau de Saint-Macoux (five minutes), or go kayaking on the Charente River from Ruffec (10 minutes). If you hit a rare cooler day, distract the kids with laps of the indoor pool at Oda Aquatic Centre (15 minutes). For a tour of Poitou-Charentes towns and villages start off in riverside Verteuil-sur-Charente (15 minutes), dominated by its castle, and then hit the 12th-century abbey and half-timbered houses of Nanteuil-en-Vallée (20 minutes). Historic Angoulême (45 minutes) is worth a day trip for its stunning medieval architecture, while Poitiers (50 minutes) has an ancient baptistry, gothic-era cathedral and works by Rodin in the Musée Sainte-Croix.
