General

  • Lakeside site with fishing and a sandy beach
  • Three pools, one covered and heated to 30°C
  • Many hiking, cycling and horse riding trails nearby

Lovely Lake Lavaud, the biggest lake in the Poitou-Charentes at 200 hectares and a place for boating, sailing, fishing and canoeing as well as for birdwatching: over 170 species have been spotted from its shores.

And lovely Camping des Lacs, so short a walk (100 metres) from the lakeside that a good part of the site has views overlooking it: if you need more water on your French hol, the site is also just a minute's walk from Guerlie beach.

Camping des Lacs has modern facilities to suit all sorts of guests from families and couples to solo travellers: there's both indoor and outdoor pools for swims in all weathers, as well as a paddling pool for safe tiddler splashing. Both pools are equipped for guests with reduced mobility.

For kids, trampolines and a bouncy castle are at the playground set handily close to the pools and the snack bar, while sporty sorts have volleyball and badminton courts, a pétanque area and hiking and biking trails nearby. A games room is also on site and rounds of miniature golf can be tackled at the beach.

Other facilities include a snack bar and restaurant dishing up tasty meals at decent prices. The amenities block has toilets and free hot showers, and there's also a washing-up area.

A grocery shop selling daily essentials is a 300-metre walk from the site; a beach snack bar, a restaurant and an English pub are all nearby.

Please note

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/04 and 31/10 (subject to weather conditions).

The indoor swimming pool is open between 01/04 and 31/10.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Wonderful campsite, this is the 3rd time we have stayed here. Staff friendly and helpful, toilet and shower blocks cleaned regularly, fabulous location next to lake and beach, children's play area, indoor and outdoor pool which our kids spent loads of time in. Would also recommend eating at the cafe on the beach - excellent. We really enjoyed our time and will be visiting again!

    Swimming pool and large pitches

    Disliked:

Website does not reflect camp site as it is a bit run down now. Lake was closed because of micro organisms. Location very rural with not much going on for children.

From the manager...

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am delighted that you have enjoyed our 3 swimming pools, allowing us to meet the needs of the little ones like grown-ups, whether the weather is good or bad :D
We have chosen to offer you large pitches with a minimum area of 100 m²,
delimited by hedges so that everyone can enjoy a comfortable space.
I am very surprised by your remark about children's activities. In general, our holidaymakers appreciate our campsite and our destination for the possibilities offered to families.
It was not necessary to hesitate to come and see us at reception, we would have been delighted to share with you our good addresses. Horse riding, treetop trekking or special visit for children of the greatest Gallo-Roman baths in France... All this is available at less than 15 minutes from the campsite!
The lake was effectively closed when you came to visit us. Unfortunately, this does not depend on us, and in this case, it is always possible to relax in our aquatic spaces.
We are totally transparent about our services, both on our website and on the different booking platforms. In case of doubt, do not hesitate to call us.
The campsite changes every year, maybe we will have the opportunity to welcome you for a new stay?

From the manager...

Hello Philip,
Thank you for this comment !
We totally agree with you and have been very annoyed by the behaviour of the lifeguard. We hope that the Community of Communes will recruit better ones next year...

The massive pitch with electricity, water tap and drain on the pitch. Staff really friendly. Good views of the lake. Nice pool. Location really good. Facilities on the lake looked really good, but due to the good weather causing algal blooms not able to be used.

    Disliked:

One toilet waste drain at the furthest point of the site (maybe an advantage for some). Some of the site a little tired looking.

From the manager...

Hello Craig,
Thank you for this comment and the excellent rating given to our campsite!
Thank you also for reporting the waste water hose that was left on your site: we will remove it very quickly because there is no more mobile home there.
We invite you to come back next year to discover the facilities we wish to make this winter in order to refresh the campsite a little bit.
Sincerely,
Helene, Director

Wow! We have been camping for many years and this is by far the best campsite we have ever been to. A lovely man made beach, play activities for the children and both indoor and outdoor pool areas. There is also a bar and restaurant on the beach front, and each pitch has its own private area. The toilet/shower blocks were regularly cleaned throughout each day and the staff were all approachable and friendly. There is a supermarket about 15 minutes drive away and you can also order fresh bread for collection each morning.

Stayed for 3 nights, was hoping to stay longer and would have stayed longer for sure but unfortunately the lake had temporary problems with algae and swimming was not allowed. Can't blame the site for this, just bad luck on our part. Not normally a problem for us but this was a kayaking and paddle boarding holiday.
Lovelly site, clean facilities and the biggest pitches I have ever seen on a French site. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Local supermarket a short drive away so we stocked up on supplies before arriving at the site.
Good play area for the kids, the kids loved it and didn't want to leave.
    Will definitely stay again.

When we arrived the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. They provide a map of the site and highlight the useful things to know such as where the recycling bins are, what time the pool opens etc. We were lucky enough to be given pitch 95 which has an excellent view of the lake. The pitch size is by far the largest we've ever had and had hedges on either side which made it more private which was really nice. Our pitch was also near the toilet/shower/washing up block which was great. We arrived on the Saturday and on the Sunday night they put on an amazing firework display over the lake which was great.
We didn't do any of the activities on offer on the lake but enjoyed watching other paddle boarding and canoeing. We used the pools daily which was a welcome relief from the hot temperatures we experienced during our stay. Despite it being hot the outdoor pool was always really chilly. It was fine once you'd got used to the temperature, although most preferred the warmer indoor pool. It could get quite busy in the pool area and there weren't always sunbeds available but this wasn't a problem, we just went back to our pitch to dry out. The pool is only 1.4m deep outside but people were letting their children jump and dive in despite this. My only suggestion would be more signs (in English) to make it clear that you can't jump or dive even though common sense should tell you this isn't a good idea.
We had a couple of take away pizzas from the restaurant by the lake which we're delicious. If you want to sit in then pre booking a table is essential. There is also a nice restaurant just over the bridge from the campsite.
The staff were around all day maintaining the grounds and the facilities were cleaned daily.

    Disliked:

Don't forget toilet roll when you visit the facilities, there wasn't any at any point during our stay. There was also no soap for handwashing after using the toilet.

Local attractions

This is the land of the green and the outdoors: the Charente Limousine and Haute Vienne regions are known for their scenic green landscapes and their outdoors activities like hiking, cycling and horse riding trails, all in a handsome natural setting.

Get out on the hoof via the two equestrian centres on the lakeside where you can canter around on horse or pony, or go out onto the water at the watersports centre with canoe, windsurf, kayak, paddleboard, rowing boat and catamaran hire as well as lessons for those who need them.

The lakes of the Haute Charente are popular in the area for fishing (you'll need a fishing licence) and for watery activities like sailing, kayaking and canoeing. Lake Lavaud, a short walk away, is a big pull for twitchers because of the many bird species spotted here over the years, as well as for boaters and watersporters: dinghies, canoes and kayaks are all available to hire at the lake's boat centre and instructors are available if you're new to the art.
