Camping Les Vertes Feuilles

Whether you want to strike out on foot, by pedal, by horseback, by kayak or poshly in a yacht, Camping Les Vertes Feuilles is sorted as a base from which to get around the Somme, and from there Picardy and northern France. The Bay of the Somme covers 14 kilometres of spectacular French coastline and varied landscapes, and is a top French birdwatching spot, on one of the main routes for migratory birds over its water, marshes, dunes and saltwater meadows. Re humans, shripmers and kayakers are on the water during high tide, but stick around for low tide too to see much movement over the bay bed including locals digging for clams. If you're here to birdwatch and want a bit of guidance, pedal along the local cycle paths to get to the Marquenterre Ornithological Park, where among many other feathery species is the only white spoonbill colony in France. Guided tours are available and you'll also find marked trails, a shop and a bistro serving such Somme tasty stuff as grilled eel, cockles and mussels, all washed down with a flagon or two of good French cider.
