After a quiet and rural style stay that seems just tailor-made for family holidays? It may be time to check in for some quality time in the south of the Vendée region at Camping O’Beau Laurier. Here, 50 minutes' drive from La Rochelle, you’ll have the privacy (and shade) that comes along with wide pitches sheltered by mature trees. Plus, there’s pretty much everything available on site that you’ll need for a break en famille. What about those kid-friendly facilities then? Well, there’s a playground and a bouncy castle for bouncing about and a swimming pool (open during high season only) with a waterslide and a paddling area for younger children. Around the pool is a sun deck for chilling. A launderette may well make life a little easier for parents, and a handy on-site food shop supplies day-to-day necessities as well as local artisan produce. On the catering front, there’s a snack bar (serving up burgers, frites and ice cream) to keep everyone fed, along with communal barbecues for those who fancy some self-catering time. And things don’t stop after dark either – the owners often organise evening entertainment including themed meals and karaoke sessions. With its prime location close to the waterslides of O’Gliss Park, long, sandy beaches like Plage de l’Oasis (both 20 minutes’ drive) and the history pageants at the wonderful Puy du Fou theme park (an hour), there’s plenty to keep everyone on their toes when you’re exploring away from base too.

Liked Advertised like a holiday camp but turns out to be a peaceful, relaxed, and ecologically minded campsite. Great facilities for families with young and grown up children - showers, bathrooms, washing up, playground, swimming pool with slide, recycling, electric vehicle chargers, shop, bar and restaurant, small pet zoo, organised entertainment. Safe - gated, fenced and lit at night. OK about our arriving a little late, and staying after packing up to swim, quiet at night without excessive light pollution, allowing dark sky viewing, helpful polite staff fluent in English and French, laundry, electrical sockets for public use (eg charging phones). This was an overnight stay on a long road trip but we wished we could have stayed another night to make better use of the facilities and explore the area.

Disliked More remote than expected - far off motorway. A little tricky to navigate after dark because of the layout of the site.

Liked Absolutely everything! The pitches are well set out offering privacy from others, the play areas were loved by my son, the small farm yard animals were also loved and the pool & slide were well maintained and a lot of fun! Entertainment was good fun, we loved the pool party! Produce was fairly priced, drinks etc also a fair price as well as the ice creams.
We were welcomed when we arrived and given a quick tour and shown to our pitch. The owner spoke English for us, as did some of the other staff, those who didn’t speak English, were able to understand my limited French! All of the staff were friendly and kind, remembered our drinks orders! The burgers are amazing! I’m not a burger fan but I had multiple of theirs over the 2 weeks!
Showers and toilets were cleaned every morning, with mops available to clean after showers. Washing machine available and worked well.
The location was lovely, a lovely small rural town, close to Lucon, a short drive to a lovely beach and close enough to larger towns/cities for day trips.
We are already planning next years stay and will be bringing friends with us!

Liked L accueil a était au top directrice trop aimable et personnel souriant et serviable.
Sanitaire propre et proche des emplacements il y a tout ce quil faut.
Bar très sympathique et piscine très correct

Disliked Petit bemol pour le sol de l Emplacement très terreux et sableux et pas du tout de pelouse qui est sûrement dû a la sécheresse.

Liked Very friendly staff and a good welcome. Quiet campsite.

Disliked No real facilities, shower block closed off, shop and bar area closed most of the time. To be honest, we probably stayed there a little too early as they were still getting ready for the summer season.

Liked Loved this site .So much to offer.Owners and staff cannot do enough for you found them to more than helpful going over and above .Showers always hot toilet paper in toilets first I have encountered on any site .Toilets and showers extremely clean .Site has so much to offer families with children .Set in a lovely location found the site very quiet .Would definitely come back

Disliked I cannot think of anything I disliked maybe the shop selling more products ie like fresh croissants and baguettes but being honest it wasn’t a problem supermarkets not very far from the site .

Liked La piscine, la déco avec les lanternes, les cocktails. L'emplacement était correct.

Disliked Nous n'avons pas été préalablement prévu qu'il y avais besoin deux rallonge car il y a une seul prise pour 4 terrain la pris se trouvent a deux terrains de nous ce n'est pas pratique. Ni qu'il fallait un adaptateur, pour nous qui découvrons le mode du camping nous aurions préfère être prévenue.

Whether it’s a sandy lounge around or a stroll along the beach, Plage de la Pointe (25 minutes’ drive) is a good place to let down your hair a little. The same can be said for Puy du Fou (an hour), which is packed with theme park rides for some goodhearted exhilaration. Birdwatching fan? There are many species to spot at the Réserve naturelle régionale du marais de la Vacherie (20 minutes). Les Oiseaux du Marais Poitevin (an hour) is another ornithological favourite where birdwatchers should have good luck. Canal cruises also take part of the limelight here, giving you a sense of the river as it runs through a wild marsh. There’s quite the mix of things to do around here, whether that’s golfing 40 minutes’ drive away, looking at the little fishies in the Aquarium La Rochelle (50 minutes) or peering into the historic Château de Terre Neuve (45 minutes). However, it may be that you’re looking for a day trip somewhere further afield. If so, a boat trip to Île de Ré (an hour and five minutes) might fit the bill nicely. This place harbours 17th-century fortifications, cafés on the marina and lots of cycling paths.
