With forest on one side and great swathes of dunes and beach on the other, Vacances ULVF - La Grande Dune is off to a great start on the location front… and that’s before you’ve even started to explore the amount of excellent family attractions around this area.
But back to the site to start with – this friendly place is right by the Vendée coast in a gorgeous little spot between Saint-Jean-de-Monts and Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez. Getting to the beach is a mere matter of a short stroll through the dunes, although the site also has a heated pool for any days when you don’t fancy a dip in the sea. A playground and games like table tennis and table football should help keep the kids busy, and there are organised activities for all ages throughout high season (including daytime sessions and evening entertainment).
Accommodation here is in comfortable static caravans, each with its own bathroom, shaded outdoor terrace and indoor living space with a kitchenette. That means it’s easy to knock up drinks and snacks whenever you like – or you could head over to the barbecue area for some outdoor cookery if you prefer. And if you don’t feel like cooking at all? The snack bar is open in July and August for affordable meals and the bar keeps things cool with ice creams and cocktails.
Heading out and about, you’ll be in a prime position for the beaches, islands and salt marshes of the Vendée coast, and there are plenty of great family attractions nearby – Atlantic Toboggan and Explora Parc among them.

Local attractions
The Vendée coast is well known for its soft sandy beaches, and no doubt you’ll want to spend a fair chunk of your time strolling, swimming or playing games on the sands. But just behind the coast is a huge area of salt marsh, well worth visiting for its wildlife and for its traditional methods of producing ‘white gold’. Cycling is a particularly nice way to explore, with a bike path starting just from the site.
Take bikes along too if you’re keen to get out on the islands of Noirmoutier (half an hour’s drive via bridge) or Yeu (via ferry from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie, 15 minutes’ drive away). Both are easygoing islands with bike paths linking beaches, historic spots and other attractions.
For kid-friendly outings, also consider places like Parc de loisirs - Feeling Forest, Dino’s Park and Atlantic Toboggan waterpark (all within five minutes’ drive) or the treetop trails of Explora Parc (15 minutes).
