Peaceful pine-scented pitches and a beach within pottering distance – what a fab spot for a family hol. Camping des Pins is in Notre-Dame-de-Monts, a 20-minute stroll from the town centre and a 15-minute amble from the beach, along a path lined with more of those pine trees. It’s a particularly fine beach here (four kilometres long and one of the Vendée’s very best, some might venture) but there’s also plenty to keep you occupied on site too, including a heated pool and paddling pool with sun terrace and nifty retractable cover to ensure splashing can continue whatever the weather. Away from the water, there are games galore at the pétanque court, multisports court and ping pong table, and a playground where small sorts can scamper about. To preserve a peaceful vibe on site, there's no evening entertainment programme here; however, in the summer a kids' club runs activities in the mornings and there's a daily aqua gym class. It’s not all go go go, though – if you’ve come away for a quieter time you can peruse the selection of books and board games in the library, and/or settle on the bar terrace for leisurely drinks and snacks.

Liked The shower system one is allowed units per day which is brilliant system and facilities superb, the reception and welcome

Disliked Very small pitches and crammed in next to neighbours which if you are mature couple and not liking noisy kids can be disturbing as it was with us. Very steep angled curve against a kerb which made it difficult to get out with caravan when we left. Not a great location really.

Disliked Lack of hand wash (I had expected the lack of toilet paper). Thought something so small would be supplied

Liked Pitch size was good, a big site but the location of pitch made it private (S) location was good, shops near by and a great cycle path to the beach and other local area, facilities on site were great the pool was lovely and the showers were excellent. Staff were fab, above and beyond so helpful and knowledgeable.

Liked This was a lovely quiet family campsite with mix of cabins, touring caravans and tent pitches. It’s just on the edge of Notre Dame de Monts and is super accessible to all the amenities and the beach. The campsite itself is well appointed with an reception that offers excursions and info, there was a great small family run restaurant/bar that served lunch and dinner with a baguette/croissant service at reasonable prices. There was also ice cream available throughout the day which our kids loved at a reasonable cost. It was cash only though.
The swimming pool was excellent for the kids and had sunloungers and places to sit and watch the kids. There were two play parks, a soft play type climbing frame and a more traditional slide and swing type area, all safe and fenced off. It was very safe for children.
We hired bikes and there were bike stands to lock them up and the campsite is close to the main cycling forest that links the villages. I’d recommend biking instead of using a car.
We were luckily pitched close to the toilet and shower blocks which was handy for midnight loo runs with the kids. You are issued with a shower token per adult and we had more than enough time to use the hot water. There are a mix of family shower cubicles, disabled and single cubicles. Loos were clean and tidy and were deep cleaned once a week. There was loo roll but we had our own just in case.
A great campsite and base to explore other towns and villages in the area. We went as far as St Jean De Monts to the south with the kids and north to Chemin de Lays. Loved it and the weather was excellent, sunny and very warm.

Disliked Not much really - we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Liked Decent size pitch with electricity. Had a pool and a snack bar which also sold a few groceries (we didn't use either so can't comment on what they were like). We ordered a baguette for each morning which was lovely. Office staff friendly. Hot and plentiful water for washing up and showers. Shower system uses a digital button which gets recharged every day giving each person a 10 min. shower daily. Each credit is worth 30 seconds and you get 20 credits each. Sounds complicated but really wasn't - a very efficient and eco way of using water. Toilets and showers are unisex but we didn't have a problem with that. Laundry facilities worked well - you buy a token from the office. Secure entry and exit to site with code given on arrival. A good, restful week for us enabling some local exploration on foot.

Local attractions

This is a very bike-friendly area, with plenty of quiet, flat roads and cycle paths nearby, and bike hire on site in summer. The Vélodyssée Atlantic cycle route runs alongside the beach – you may not fancy tackling all 1,200 kilometres of it, but it's a good way to get to some of the nearby resorts like Saint-Jean-de-Monts, or to the island of Noirmoutier (about half an hour away). Nip down to Notre-Dame-de-Monts for a whole heap of family activities. By bike you’re just a few minutes away from the Biotopia nature reserve and interactive exhibition, the colourful Wind Garden and all sorts of watersports at Pôle Nautique sailing centre (including sailing, canoeing and paddleboarding). A little further afield, it’s a 10-minute drive to the treetop trails of Explora Parc, or around 50 to a really wild day out at Planète Sauvage safari park. Should you wish to see more of the coast, it’s a half-hour drive to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie for boat trips to the cliffs and coves of lovely Yeu island.
