Peaceful pine-scented pitches and a beach within pottering distance – what a fab spot for a family hol. Camping des Pins is in Notre-Dame-de-Monts, a 20-minute stroll from the town centre and a 15-minute amble from the beach, along a path lined with more of those pine trees. It’s a particularly fine beach here (four kilometres long and one of the Vendée’s very best, some might venture) but there’s also plenty to keep you occupied on site too, including a heated pool and paddling pool with sun terrace and nifty retractable cover to ensure splashing can continue whatever the weather. Away from the water, there are games galore at the pétanque court, multisports court and ping pong table, and a playground where small sorts can scamper about. To preserve a peaceful vibe on site, there's no evening entertainment programme here; however, in the summer a kids' club runs activities in the mornings and there's a daily aqua gym class. It’s not all go go go, though – if you’ve come away for a quieter time you can peruse the selection of books and board games in the library, and/or settle on the bar terrace for leisurely drinks and snacks.

Liked Nice location. Great indoor pool. Good facilities.

Disliked Didn’t mention at book in that the adjoining bar and cafe only takes cash. It is also an unconnected business. The first we knew it was cash was when we ordered. We were able to create a ‘tab’ and settled up in the day we left - by cash.

Disliked Manque vigil.
Horaire ouverture des sanitaires trop tard.
Pas de zone pour les enfants pour qu'ils puissent s'exprimer a voi haute le soir.
Terrain mal agencé grosse racine au milieu du terrain emplacements 71 et trop de vis à vis avec ses voisins.

Local attractions

This is a very bike-friendly area, with plenty of quiet, flat roads and cycle paths nearby, and bike hire on site in summer. The Vélodyssée Atlantic cycle route runs alongside the beach – you may not fancy tackling all 1,200 kilometres of it, but it's a good way to get to some of the nearby resorts like Saint-Jean-de-Monts, or to the island of Noirmoutier (about half an hour away). Nip down to Notre-Dame-de-Monts for a whole heap of family activities. By bike you’re just a few minutes away from the Biotopia nature reserve and interactive exhibition, the colourful Wind Garden and all sorts of watersports at Pôle Nautique sailing centre (including sailing, canoeing and paddleboarding). A little further afield, it’s a 10-minute drive to the treetop trails of Explora Parc, or around 50 to a really wild day out at Planète Sauvage safari park. Should you wish to see more of the coast, it’s a half-hour drive to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie for boat trips to the cliffs and coves of lovely Yeu island.
