In the heart of a pine forest and less than a kilometre away from a stonkingly scenic sandy beach... we could settle at the Vendée's Camping Les Violettes for quite some time. And it's less than an hour and a half's drive from the stonkingly superb Puy du Fou historic theme park... we could settle there for quite some time too.
On site, Les Violettes's well-kept facilities include an outdoor swimming pool with waterslides and a paddling pool, a playground, ping pong tables and a pétanque court. (Gentlemen, do please remember to pack Speedoes or swimming trunks for the pool: French campsites frown heavily on pool goers splashing around in shorts.)
During high season, the site organises regular entertainment and activities including karaoke, bingo, quiz nights and a kids' club for ages five to ten. A snack bar is open in July and August and has free wifi – we suggest making yourself very much the envy of Them Back Home by sharing your many scenic French holiday pics.

Local attractions
The nearest sandy beach is about 800 metres from Camping Les Violettes, for sunbathing, swimming and more active options like sea fishing, watersports and coastal hiking and cycling.
The bay in L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer is a popular stop for guests visiting the region, as is the Zoo des Sables d'Olonne within 50 kilometres, or a day exploring the harbour, aquarium and gourmet restaurants of La Rochelle an hour away.
A bit further afield at about an hour and a quarter's drive, the Marais Poitevin marshlands including Green Venice are a strong suggestion from us – take a boat trip across the rivers of the marshes' eastern side – and we also highly recommend a day (at least) at the Puy du Fou theme park, named as the best theme park in the world and an hour and 20 minutes away.
