Ferme du Marais Poitevin in the small marshland village of Sainte-Christine should be just right for you. Set in the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park and committed to ecotourism, this back-to-nature site is on a small organic farm, certified by Bienvenue à la Ferme and surrounded by ten hectares of meadows, woods and canals.
First thing the kids will want to do is to cuddle the heritage breeds that call this place their home: dreadlocked Baudet du Poitou donkeys, bicolored Solognote sheep and golden-egg-laying Marans hens. There’s also a self-guided educational trail around the farm, workshops on animal husbandry and special meet-and-greet sessions with the donkeys.
The site owners are happy to help you discover the wildlife, flora and local heritage of the Marais Poitevin. They offer nature walks, boat trips in typical flat-bottomed punts and night-time excursions to spy on nocturnal creatures going about their business.
Facilities-wise, the site has a shower block, dishwashing sinks, a washing machine and freezer. To ensure quiet at all times, the car park is elsewhere on the farm.
