  • Rental tents on a family-friendly site in Rosiers sur Loire
  • Angers, Saumur, canoe trips and châteaux within a half-hour drive
  • Heated indoor and outdoor pools, spa, miniature golf and tennis
Seeking a slice of the simple life? Sail along to one of the rental tents at Juliette Tentvakanties at Camping Les Voiles d’Anjou, a glamping spot in the Maine-et-Loire town of Rosiers sur Loire. The setup here's straightforward – not only are the tents prepped with lots of useful bits and bobs (including beds, kitchen kit and outdoor furniture), the site’s also in a mighty handy location. It's close to the town centre, so within easy ambling distance of the train station, shops, a supermarket and plenty of places to eat and drink. The town's a most convenient base for Loire Valley hols as well – châteaux, canoe trips and days out in the likes of Saumur and Angers are all within a half-hour drive. On top of that, Camping Les Voiles d’Anjou is packed with things to do for all ages. Active sorts can busy themselves with swims in the heated indoor and outdoor pools, playing games of tennis, volleyball, pétanque and miniature golf or bouncing themselves giddy on the trampolines, while souls in search of a spot more serenity can select a book from the library or slope off to the spa. Swing by in summer for organised activities throughout the day for both kids and grownups; but conserve a bit of energy for evening – you’ll not want to drop off before the disco/live music/night swim session gets going... For eats, a shop and snack bar are open in high season, and there’s a barbecue area available all year round.

Local attractions

Being anywhere sur Loire is always a good start, but if you’d like to get yourselves literally sur Loire, you can make that happen with a canoe trip from the other side of town (five minutes’ drive or 25 minutes’ walk). Once you’ve paddled locally, set out to see some of the Loire Valley’s big hitters: it’s a 20-minute drive to splendid Saumur (to see the château, watch displays at the Cadre Noir military riding school and sample wares from the sparkling wine cellars), and around half an hour to Angers (to see the cathedral and another château, this time with an eye-popping depiction of the apocalypse in tapestry form). If you’re not château-ed out yet, there’s another fine specimen in Château de Brézé (half an hour’s drive). But should be seeking something a little different, try out the treetop trails at Aventure 49 adventure park (15 minutes), come eye to eye with a thousand animals at Bioparc Doué la Fontaine zoo (20 minutes), or delve deep underground at La Cave aux Sculptures subterranean museum (15 minutes).
