  • Small, peaceful family-run Pays de la Loire site with three ponds
  • A five-minute drive to a Japanese garden; half an hour from Puy du Fou
  • Watersports, games and fishing on site, plus animals to meet
If someone asked you to imagine a small, friendly site in the countryside of France, you might come up with something that closely resembles Les Logis de L’Oumois in Pays de la Loire. The Beaudoin family (Lydie, Nathalie and their parents) designed this site just as they like their own holidays – family friendly, in the countryside and with plenty to do. Fishing ponds, peaceful birdsong and walks are key elements of this site. On your wanderings, keep your eyes peeled for the resident chickens and cows, as well as Chouquette the donkey, Pompon the pony and Léon the peacock. You'll also be able to get stuck into the watersports, which include boating, canoeing and pedal boats (all free of charge). The games room is kitted out with billiards, table football, table tennis, wooden games and darts, while outdoors there are high-season activities like inflatable structures, a trampoline, a multi-sports field and a treasure hunt based around the ponds. You'll probably have built up a healthy appetite with all of those activities. Handily, there are barbecues on site and shops and restaurants within a 20-minute walk or a five-minute drive in Saint-Pierre-des-Échaubrognes. The site also has a washing machine for any dirty laundry. When you’re ready to explore the area, make your way to Parc Oriental de Maulévrier (five minutes' drive), which is a huge Japanese garden originally planted in the early 20th century and since restored. The kids will probably be pleased to hear that one of France’s most popular theme parks, Puy du Fou, is also close by (half an hour’s drive).

Liked: Really nice place, electric pitch, fresh water, toilets and showers were clean, nice walks around the lakes, we could have used the canoes available, lovely village nearby with Japanese garden, coffee shop and cafe.

Disliked: No Wi-Fi yet but they are working on it but not a big issue really

Electric grass touring pitch

Local attractions

Fond of a stroll after lunch? There are a couple of very splendid places for such things nearby. Verdon Lake (five minutes’ drive) and Lac de Ribou (10 minutes) have lovely views. If you haven’t eaten yet, pack a picnic to eat by the water. There’s no shortage of stunning scenery in this area, as you'll quickly learn in the village of Aubigné-sur-Layon (35 minutes) – which has a walled castle with parts dating from the 12th to 15th centuries – and Clisson (45 minutes), which has a ruined castle, a 15th-century market and a scattering of Italian architecture. That may be enough ruined castles for one trip, but if not, add Château de Bressuire (25 minutes) to your list. Cholet (15 minutes) is one of the closest towns to the site; it has an art and history museum and a textile and fashion museum (20 minutes). Driving a bit further away will get you to another stunning sightseeing spot in Nantes (an hour), on the river Loire and home to a medieval castle with a museum about the city.
