Pitches by the river
Chateau across the river
The site
Pitches with river views

  • Riverside site on the Loir banks, with fishing direct from the site
  • A 10-minute stroll from Durtal and the 11th-century Château de Durtal
  • Pools, playground, bar and takeaway snacks
If you're off for a riverside hol anywhere in la France, it should certainly be the Loir. Proximity to the Loir valley is fairly fab too (pour les châteaux, and other attractions like troglodyte cave houses), and then there's Loir river fishing, canoeing, bike trails – and wherever you are in the land it's mighty fine to be within strolling distance of town and a swish boulangerie too… That boulangerie is in Durtal and that Loir location is under 10 minutes' amble from town at Camping Les Portes de Anjou, a green and scenic Maine-et-Loire site next to the river. As befits such a strategic waterside setting, you can fish straight from the site here. The GR 35 hiking trail is accessible from the Portes de Anjou grounds. Around the site, there's stacks to do for all ages, including a big playground with a trampoline and table tennis. There's also an indoor games room with table football, pool and pinball, plus a pétanque court and bike hire. In high season (July and August), take to the water at the open-air pool complex, which is made up of a main pool and a paddling area. The complex (a public pool which is closed on Sundays and Mondays) is directly accessible from the campsite. For meals or drinks, you can either order bits to take away or head to the bar (open every evening in July and August). Fresh bread and pastries are also available for delivery every day in July and August.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Loved the site, lovely shady pitch backing on to the river. Great welcome from the lady at reception. Town was lovely well worth a visit. Everything clean and tidy. No idea on Wi-Fi or child facilities- not required.

Disliked Pool was closed because it was 28 th June not high season even though it was 33 degrees. Other than that a fantastic little site.

Concerning Swimming pool, as well noted in the website, it is not our swimming pool but a public one and unfortunately it's open only in July & August from Tuesday to Saturday in the afternoon.
Looking forward to seeing you again, Kind regards. Yves & Sophie

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Secluded pitches, river walk, close to town, peaceful close to nature.

Disliked Limited season, no pool (despite advertised as open), bar/restaurant only open from 1 July-31 Aug. Just wanted a nice cold beer on arrival.

In June, it is the low season and some services are not opened. Concerning swiming pool, you can not tell that it is advertised as open. It is well noted on the website that that the public swiming pool is opened from 5 July to 30 August. I can not add a print of the advertising but you can see it on the link "https://www.pitchup.com/fr/campsites/france/pays-de-la-loire/maine-et-loire/durtal/camping_les_portes_de_lanjou/"
Bar is opened on the low season only during the WE and every evening during July & August. You can buy some cold beer at the reception and you dit it.
Looking forward to seeing you again, Kind regards. Yves & Sophie

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Good sized pitch, next to the river so good for fishing. Very easy walk to the village for groceries or a restaurant.
Clean facilities. Good shower
Pay for WiFi.

Disliked Urinals next to shared toilets with very small sink for hand washing. Remember to take your own towel for hand washing.

Local attractions

After fishing, canoeing and sampling a wide selection of pastries in town, set off from the Portes de Anjou grounds on the GR 35 trail for a stroll or hike. You're well placed too for woodland walks in the forest of Chambiers, within about 10 minutes by car or 40 minutes by foot, and around the spectacular 11th-century Château de Durtal, under a kilometre away. Then take off on a châteaux trip, to the Château de Baugé, 20 minutes' drive away, and the Château d'Angers, 30 minutes away in Angers. The zoo at La Flèche is 20 minutes from the site.
