General
- On the Opal Coast a kilometre from the sea and 5km from Le Touquet
- Fitness centre, playground and pétanque court
- Less than an hour's drive from Calais
Ah, Le Touquet Paris-Plage… the famed French beach on the Pas-de-Calais coast that's been home to literati types like Noel Coward and PG Wodehouse, and that sees thousands of sun seekers flock to it each summer. (When you get there, you'll see pourquoi.)
If you'd like to stay nearby and be on an Opal Coast beach as soon as poss after waking up every morn (oui), base yourself at Camping La Forêt, a peaceful site on three hectares of land, a kilometre from the sea at Stella beach, five kilometres from the famed sands of Le Touquet, and a well-set base to use for day tripping around Pas-de-Calais and northern France. Sporty things like hiking, fishing, kitesurfing and biking are all easily accessible in the area.
La Forêt has a fitness centre, a playground, a pétanque court and two games rooms with ping pong, pool, table football, air hockey and card games.
There's also a launderette with a washing machine and a tumble dryer, and cylinders, regional products and souvenirs on sale.

Local attractions
As well as its posh old past (it was once nicknamed 'Paris by the sea'), Le Touquet is a main beach on the coast of northern France for its outdoors and sporting opps: there are several horse riding activity centres around the Centre Equestre, the tennis club has a few dozen courts, and the area has hosted four Tour de France races. Golf and horse racing are just inland from the beach.
About seven kilometres away is the fishing port of Étaples, set on the Canche river and used by Allied forces in both world wars; a military cemetery is in town with about 11,500 graves. The Rope Walk and the Étaples Museum of Seafaring are also worth a look.
Also on the coast and about 15 kilometres away, the Citadel of Montreuil-sur-Mer is a 16th-century royal citadel built on the foundations of a medieval royal castle, now an official monument and a museum. Both the Parc Bagatelle theme park and Aqualud waterpark are within a short drive.
Camping La Forêt is less than an hour's drive from Calais and the Eurotunnel.
