General

  • Among stunning scenery in the Pyrénées National Park
  • Direct access to the GR 10, half an hour from Lourdes
  • Playground, giant chess, wellness centre, bar and well-stocked shop

Parlez-vous français? Never mind – even if you're anglais without a word of le lingo, you'll surely see from the site name that this is Pyrénées camping in a splendid setting. And regardless of your native source, you'll surely see with a quick look at the pics that Camping Pyrénées Natura that this is a stunning place.

The first excellent feature of this site's setting is that it's five minutes' walk from Estaing among the spectacular surroundings of the Pyrénées National Park; the views from here are worth yet another flick through the pics... Both the GR 10 and the Tour du Val d'Azun routes are directly accessible from the park.

Next up, it's only half an hour's drive from here to the world-famed pilgrimage centre of Lourdes for exploring further afield, and an hour and 20 minutes to both the Col du Tourmalet and the UNESCO-listed Cirque de Gavarnie for some of the most scenic cycling you'll do anywhere in the world. The Spanish border is a couple of hours away.

The friendly welcome of your helpful hosts Virginie and Hervé is also very much worth a mention; they and the team will assist guests to the utmost in getting the most from their hols around this lush land, whether that's exploring some or all the above, or lounging around the grounds to take in the views once more.

For on-site days, a playground and a giant chess set will keep kids out of mischief while adults bubble gently in the wellness centre sauna for a reasonable extra charge... or you could pick up beer, wine and soft drinks at the well-stocked shop to gather the clan for drinks on the terrace or by your berth.

The bar serves breakfast and lunch including sandwiches and homemade pizza. Bread and croissants are baked fresh on site each morning, so guests can wake up to this enticing scent among these excellent Hautes-Pyrénées views.

Beautiful location with a lake a few miles further up the lane you can walk or cycle right from the site gate. Facilities were of a high standard and kept spotless throughout our week, only four loos in our block so during busy periods you may have to wait a few mins. Simple menu in restaurant but the food was of a high quality which we enjoyed especially the steak I had.
We were a bit unlucky with the weather really as it was 38 deg one day then 16 deg the next so scorching then chilly but I suppose that is to be expected as the site is 20 mins up the mountain.
All staff were friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

Only grumble was a composter that was about 10ft away from our pitch which when people added to it sent a bad smell our way which wasn't pleasant whilst eating your dinner! Perhaps it could be located a little further away from the pitches.

pleasant atmosphere, friendly family running the establishment.

nicely laid out and kept site, with seating /play areas though quite cramped for space

    Disliked:

not in a good location for walking, all the other adjacent valleys are much better.

accommodation was very basic internally, clean but with plastic covered seating, very cramped toilet off kitchen area, very small bedrooms.

From the manager...

Happy to read that you like the atmosphere of our site, for us it is very important that people feel at home!
Accomodation are not as spacious as a house, indeed : 28 m² and a covered terrasse. Maybe you should have rent a house instead of a cabin in campsite...
Each valley is different and everybody has his own preferences.
Many people come here for walking. We are on the GR10 Tour and Tour du Val d'Azun in the National Park and the beautiful Lac d'Estaing.

Directions

Please note: guests driving large vehicles must not approach the campsite via Col d'Aubisque as this road is not suitable for large motorhomes or caravans. A weekly market takes place in Argeles Gazost every Tuesday and access to this area and traffic is restricted. For this reason, the owners strongly advise caravans and motorhomes drivers to avoid departing/arriving between 6am and 2pm on Tuesdays.

The campsite is located 15 miles south of Lourdes. From Lourdes take the D821/D821A towards Argeles Gazost, following the signs for Val d’Azun, Col d’Aubisque and Aucun. In Argeles-Gazost take the D918 signposted Val d'Azun. After 4.5 miles turn left on D13 to Bun. Go past Bun and across the river. Turn right onto D103 and continue for approximately 2 miles following signposts to 'Lac d'Estaing'. The site is at the entrance of the village.

Local attractions

Camping Pyrénées Natura has direct access to the GR 10, the trail running the length of the Pyrenees along the French/Spanish border. About 20 minutes by bike should take you to the waters of the Lac d'Estaing for waterside hikes and pony rides, cycling, and fishing.

Lourdes, Massabielle Grotto and the Rosary basilica are easily accessible from the site within about half an hour, as well as the mountain passes of Col du Soulor (25 minutes) and Col du Tourmalet, an hour and 20 minutes away.

For a more peaceful time, drive 15 minutes to Argeof lès-Gazost for a session in the thermal baths, or a guided walk every Wednesday from the tourist office.
