  • Family-friendly Gascony site on the edge of Castéra-Verduzan
  • Château de Cassaigne and Château de Lavardens 15 minutes' drive
  • Direct access to a sandy beach with waterslides and watersports
Now, you may already be aware that Gascony is a pretty fantastic region for food and drink – and perhaps you’re already thinking about all the duck dishes, Bigorre pork and orchard fruits you’re going to consume (washed down with Gascon wines and glasses of Armagnac). You’ve perhaps also heard that this area is nicknamed ‘the French Tuscany’ for its gorgeous hilly scenery and traditional villages to visit. But did you know that you can combine all this with a beach break? Yes, right here – many miles from the coast – is Camping La Plage de Verduzan, a peaceful place on a wooded estate with direct access to a lovely lake. As the name promises, there’s a fine sandy beach here, with lifeguarded swimming areas, fishing spots, waterslides and a watersports centre to cater for all ages and tastes. That location makes this a fabulous spot for a family holiday, the lakeside location being boosted by an excellent range of leisure facilities including a play area, a pétanque court, a games room and a kids’ club for fun activities. Essential amenities are sorted too – you can eat at the restaurant, grab a drink at the bar or cook your own meals at the barbecue area, and you’ll have access to a launderette, wifi and bathrooms with toilets and showers (including wheelchair-accessible facilities). Even with all this, there’s more… because this site is also in a handy spot on the edge of Castéra-Verduzan, putting you within easy reach of the town’s shops and places to eat as well as its thermal baths.

Local attractions

You’ll certainly want to spend some time in Castéra-Verduzan, perhaps trying out the thermal baths, trying your luck at the casino or stocking up on tasty local produce at the Sunday morning market. A little way out of town (five minutes’ drive) is Hippodrome de Baron, for atmospheric summer horse race meets. After that, perhaps it’s off to some of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France – Larressingle (25 minutes), Fourcès (half an hour) and Montréal-du-Gers (half an hour) are all gorgeous places for a wander. Events like Jazz in Marciac (50 minutes) are worth looking out for too, as are heritage attractions like 17th-century Château de Lavardens and the art-filled Flaran Abbey (both 15 minutes). Out in the countryside, you can follow walking trails from the town or ask reception staff to help you organise horse riding outings from a local farm. There are also lots of wineries and duck farms you can drop in to nearby – Château de Cassaigne (15 minutes) is a favourite for wine and Armagnac tastings.
