  • Family site with direct access to a Lake Pareloup beach in Aveyron
  • Millau Viaduct 45 minutes’ drive and Gorges du Tarn 55 minutes
  • Covered pool, activities and entertainment; restaurant and shop
Set on an organic farm 10 minutes’ drive from the rambling hillside village of Salles-Curan in rural Aveyron, Camping Parc du Charouzech is a family-friendly site on the shores of Lake Pareloup, one of the largest lakes in France. The area has a temperate climate where warm sunny days follow cool nights, and is luckily largely untroubled by mosquitoes. Opened in 1995 and run by generations of the same family, the site has pretty much everything you could want for an active family holiday. Kids can run off energy at the play area, splash around in the waterpark and swim laps of the covered pool (open mid-June to early September) while adults snooze on the sun terrace. When it’s action and not sleep that you’re after, book yoga and zumba classes or head on down to the sandy beach edging Lake Pareloup to launch yourselves on canoes, paddleboards or pedal boats. In high season there are also clubs for younger kids and teens, as well as pétanque competitions – and of course you can tour the farm, meet the cows, feed the goats and collect eggs from the free-range hens. If you’ve hung up your apron for the duration of your holiday, regional cuisine is served on the restaurant’s shaded terrace, while there’s a picnic area with barbecues on the beach – pick up local produce from the on-site shop. After some night-time entertainment? There are regular themed dances to keep all the family on their feet.

2 bedroom safari tent

Liked Notre bref séjour s'est bien déroulé, dans un camping calme et sympathique, et dans une cabane très accueillante.
Je ne peux pas en dire plus car nous ne sommes pas restés très longtemps : 2 nuit seulement.

Acacia fully-serviced grass pitch

Acacia fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked Fantastic location and a great sized pitch

Disliked There is no shop as such just a few bottles of wine and expensive crisps.

You have to pre order bread and croissants for the next day. Which is fine for long stays. But not much help for overnight stays.

Local attractions

You may well decide that Lake Pareloup has all you need – after all, you can go boating, try out a variety of watersports, fish for carp and pike, walk around its shores and swim off pocket-sized lake beaches. Should you fancy a change of scenery, the spectacular Gorges du Tarn runs east from the sleepy waterside village of Le Rozier (55 minutes’ drive), and makes a dramatic backdrop to hiking, cycling and canoeing adventures. If the kids need a little persuasion to join such day trips, hopefully they will be intrigued by the bizarrely shaped rock formations at Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux (an hour and 10 minutes). There are more stunning views – this time of the manmade kind – to be had at the Millau Viaduct (45 minutes), designed by Sir Norman Foster with elegant spans crossing the Tarn Valley. For a day of urban sightseeing, Rodez (45 minutes) repays a visit with modern art in the ultra-contemporary Musée Soulages and peerless Gothic architecture at its pink-stoned cathedral, or you can get out into rural Aveyron to sample well-known cheeses matured in caves at Roquefort-sur-Soulzon (50 minutes).
