General
- Eco-camping on a two-hectare site
- Surrounded by nature
- In the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park
Le clue, c'est dans la nom. Eco-Camping le Cun du Larzac in the Midi-Pyrénées department of Aveyron is a sustainably-run and economically conscious campsite, committed to its natural environment and to maintaining the biodiversity of its surroundings.
All is most green all around too, as the campsite is in the huge Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, a place of landscapes so unspoilt that part of the park is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many hikes and bike rides start directly from here: if you're unsure where to set off, details on these as well as the region's tours, excursions, swimming, canoeing, climbing and paragliding is in the Cun du Larzac reception along with maps and guidebooks.
Site leisure facilities include a trampoline for bounces, a slackline for tentative steps (or limbo dancing?), ping pong tables, badminton equipment and a volleyball court. Internet access is available at reception and books/games can be borrowed at the campsite library.
For food, guests can order packed lunches or picnic baskets filled with local organic produce (this is surely an area for picnics), to have on a day's hike after a breakfast cooked on site. A grocery shop selling organic essentials and local products is also on site.
And finally, as befits such a green and eco site, many animals roam here alongside the guests: expect to see ponies and goats wandering about as well as the site chickens.

Local attractions
The hiking trails around Eco-Camping le Cun du Larzac run along for up to 30 kilometres and are an excellent option for a long day out, particularly with a packed picnic.
If that makes you feel faint, other trails can be found along the gorges of la Dourbie and la Jonte or the Tarn river; if that's just a bit too tame, try some canoeing, climbing and paragliding in the nearby blockfield Chaos of Montpellier Le Vieux.
Still far too much to consider on a placid hol? Decide to munch your way around the local landscape instead and try as many of its regional specialties as you can: areas and cuisine to aim for include the cheeses of Montredon, the organic lamb of la Doline and the cheese and bread of Truels.
More foodie highlights can be had at the peasant market of Montredon, selling heaps of local produce throughout high season in Cun five kilometres from the site; copious amounts of French food should be sampled here too.
