  • Family-friendly site in a quiet park on the banks of the Tarn river
  • A 10-minute drive from central Millau and 20 minutes from the viaduct
  • Swimming pool, paddling pool, restaurant and summer kids' club
Fancy milling around for a while in Millau? Have your Aveyron break at Camping Le Millau Plage for a mighty fine mix of town and country: surrounded by trees and wildlife on the banks of the Tarn river and yet 10 minutes’ drive from the city centre. Maybe you’re coming here to view the famed bridge (the world’s tallest, no less), to hike in the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park, to seek out adrenaline-fuelled days of paragliding, bungee jumping and canyoning, or to drift around in a more leisurely fashion, pottering around by the river and picking at local cheese...? Whatever your preferred flavour of holiday days out, it’s a bright idea to factor in a bit of time for the site’s own attractions. Here again it’s a cinch to tailor your time just as you wish: settle in a shaded corner to watch the squirrels scuttle about, or pack your days to the max dashing from pool to multisports ground to pétanque court to table tennis if you’re one of the busy ones. Different age groups conflicted by different boredom thresholds? Perhaps the kids’ club activities that run through the summer will help sort that one, ensuring familial harmony when you reconvene later in the day for a meal at the restaurant and a bit of toe-tapping at the evening’s show or concert.

Local attractions

Want to stretch your legs in a gentle manner? Take a stroll along the banks of the Tarn for a relaxing riverside ramble direct from the site. If you need more of a challenge, take the 25-minute drive to the striking Chaos de Montpellier-le-Vieux for hikes among the huge dolomite rocks and natural arches. There are several trails here of varying difficulty and a mini train for those whose ideal level of difficulty is a minimal one. There’s much epic landscape to be seen around here, both natural and manmade – the Millau Viaduct (20 minutes away) is taller than the Eiffel Tower. Don’t restrict yourself to seeing it all from ground level: you can also take boat trips or canoe paddles down the river, take a view from above on a paragliding flight or see some of it shoot past at high speed as you launch out on a bungee jump. All a bit too active? Dial the pace down with a tour of local historic sites: potter around the Gallo-Roman potters’ village La Graufesenque (five minutes’ drive), to take in the town’s 12th-century bell tower and look out for the old mill, set precariously on the ruins of an old bridge and looking like it's on the verge of toppling into the waters below.
