  • Small, secluded site with stunning views across the Midi-Pyrenees
  • In the private grounds of an 18th-century farmstead
  • 12 hectares of private woodland, firepits, barbecue and outdoor gym
A rural expanse dating back to the late 18th century... with wide hectares of private woodland valley garden for guests' leisurely pleasure... and all among an elevated position with views spanning over 130 kilometres of the Midi-Pyrenees... what a French farm this is. Run by British owner Andrew, Longuevernhe is a mighty peaceful place in a mighty scenic setting, 10 minutes' drive from the Aveyron town of Plaisance and just under an hour from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Albi. Quad biking, paragliding, kayaking, caving, abseiling, paintballing and fishing are among the many activities you and the kids can get stuck into locally (ask Andrew for details and top tips), and an open-air pool with waterslide is in the local village of St Sernin sur Rance about seven kilometres away. Andrew's quietly restoring Longuevernhe as a working farmstead: guests are welcome to help out with fruit picking, gardening, animal feeding, drystone walling or carpentry; you can see the fruits of this last in the on-site furniture showroom and workshop. Elsewhere, there are 12 hectares of private woodland, meadows and orchards to wander, outdoor gym equipment to puff around at, bikes including safety gear to hire, and firepits and a barbecue for restful times as the evenings draw in. Amenities include a shared bathroom and kitchen in the main farmhouse, wifi, and plenty of parking including covered garages. A bar/café, grocery shop, bank/ATM, post office, petrol station and tourist office are all in St Sernin sur Rance; a bigger, more affordable, supermarket is 15 minutes away in Coupiac.

Local attractions

Historic towns and villages are close by or within easy reach for day trips, including Trebas (20 minutes), Saint-Affrique (40 minutes) and Tarn capital Albi an hour away, a medieval city with spectacular Old Town and 13th-century cathedral. Millau, home of the famed Millau Viaduct, is about an hour and 15 minutes from the farm. For more history, potter around the five villages of the Knights Templar: La Cavalerie, La Couvertoirade, Sainte-Eulalie de Cernon, Le Viala du Pas de Jaux and Saint-Jean d’Alcas, or go further back in time with a trip to the caves at Roquefort about an hour away: yes, the setting of the famed French cheese. If you're around with kids, take them to Aventure Parc at Saint-Pierre-de-Trivisy, 55 minutes away, or to gape at the creepy crawlie inhabitants of 'city of insects' Micropolis, an hour and a quarter away at Saint Léons.
