  • Family-owned Aveyron site in the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park
  • Rougier de Camarès 25 minutes’ drive and Millau Viaduct 50 minutes
  • Guinguette bistro and bar; Belmont-sur-Rance shops five minutes’ wal
Found in the Aveyron region’s postcard-pretty village of Belmont-sur-Rance with its shops and bars, Camping Vert Lavande is a welcoming family site on the banks of the River Rance. The privileged setting of this small-scale spot also sees it in pole position for outdoor adventure in the scenic Grands Causses Regional Natural Park. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the family who have owned the site for decades; they’ll show you to your pitch and answer any questions you may have about the area. Once settled, toddlers can soon busy themselves at the play area, and there’s a ping-pong table, fitness equipment and a books-and-games swap system to keep older kids entertained too. Fancy a cooling dip? You have the choice of the River Rance or the municipal swimming pool (the latter in high season), less than five minutes’ walk away. No doubt fans of outdoor sports will be chuffed to hear that mountain biking trails, running tracks and fitness trails can be accessed directly from the site, providing a gateway into the spectacular scenery of the Aveyron region. After all that exertion, you can end your day in the site’s informal guinguette restaurant/bar, and tuck into a plate of local cured meats and cheeses accompanied by a chilled Marcillac rosé wine.

Local attractions

At the municipal pool almost next-door to Camping Vert Lavande, there’s an aquagym and lessons for novice swimmers in high season. Active families can burn off energy on the international racetrack at Karting Plus, and budding equestrians may like to hone their riding skills on well-schooled horses at the local stables (both five minutes’ drive), which have a partnership with the site. If you’d like to try something a bit more high octane, Camping Vert Lavande has a partnership with Saint-Affrique - Belmont Airport (also five minutes) for aspiring pilots to take introductory flights. If you prefer to stay on terra firma, you can soon be out on numerous cycling and hiking trails through the Grands Causses Regional Natural Park – there are trails for all ages and all levels of ability. A favourite local attraction is the millennia-old, iron-stained red rock at Rougier de Camarès (25 minutes’ drive); equally spectacular are the ravines and limestone formations in the Gorges du Tarn (an hour); see them at their best from kayaks on the river. Manmade but just as stunning, the Millau Viaduct (50 minutes) is a much-loved landmark arching its way across the Tarn Valley.
