General
- Friendly site in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park
- 300 metres from a lake, 4km from Route des Crêtes and 9 from Gérardmer
- Pool, fishing, tennis, play area, shop and bar with terrace
It is, of course, in a green valley. And Camping Verte Vallée is in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Park too, in what a previous guest happily hails as a 'fantastic location': if you're after mountain hiking, climbing, watersports or winter skiing, this is the place to be.
The site is near the mountain town of Xonrupt-Longemer, surrounded by the summits of the Vosges and nine kilometres from the famed ski town of Gérardmer. You might dither somewhat when deciding what to do first around here, so make a natter with the team top of your to-do list when you arrive: the staff are properly passionate about this gorgeous part of France and can pass on tips on what to see and do.
The team also prides itself on the warm welcome and spotless levels of cleanliness throughout the site. There are excellent facilities too, including a pool with retractable roof for swimming in all weathers; fishing right from the grounds; pétanque and tennis, a TV room, a games room and a summer kids' club. Kids also have their own paddling pool to splash around in, as well as a play area to bounce about at: do ensure they make their acquaintance with Sophie the inflatable giraffe...
Eats of all sorts are easily found at Xonrupt-Longemer and Gérardmer, but if you'd rather tuck in on site, there's a bar with terrace, a food shop and permission granted for pitchside barbecues.

Local attractions
This stunning part of France is between Alsace and Lorraine, in jaw-droppingly scenic countryside among lakes, waterfalls, woodland and mountains, with a wide range of activities for all tastes.
Have a hike along the Route des Crêtes, four kilometres away, for spectacular scenery and views of Alsace, the Alps and the Black Forest. There are 89 kilometres to tackle should you so wish, on its run from Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines to Cernay; it's best to plan a hike during the months from April to November, as snow makes most of the route impassable in winter.
Another must-see is the market town and ski resort of Gérardmer (nine kilometres), which has 40 runs on levels from beginner to black; cultural events and activities all year round, and yet more viewsome vistas. Sailing, canoeing, kayaking and a sandy beach are all at Lac de Gérardmer for watersporters, or you could stroll a simple 300 metres from Camping Verte Vallée to Lac de Longemer for more of the same.
