  • Quiet dog-friendly site with lots of greenery in a small village
  • A 50-minute drive from Lac de Madine; 55 minutes from Nancy
  • Barbecues are allowed on site; nearby hiking and cycling trails
If you like the quiet life, there’s a very good chance that you’re going to like Camping Des Saturnins. The well-maintained site has a generous helping of trees (and therefore, birds), including old apple trees, a pear tree and a walnut tree. The quiet orchard also has several gorgeous views of fields, meadows and hills, and checking them out at sunrise and sunset is highly advisable. Just as highly advisable is exploring the nearby hiking and cycling trails in the area, as well as the forests (birdwatching is a dream on the forest walks in the Forêt Domaniale de la Reine, which is 40 minutes’ drive away from the site). Camping Des Saturnins is on the outskirts of a small village named Méligny-le-Grand, and this part of north-eastern France is indeed peaceful. While the village may be small, guests can still create big plans, like hiking, biking, visiting farms or visiting boating lakes and grand castles within 50 minutes’ drive of the site. The facilities at Camping Des Saturnins cover the necessities, and include toilets and showers. Barbecues are also allowed, so if you want to source some tasty ingredients for the big event, seek out the shops within 15 minutes’ drive of the site. Restaurants are five minutes’ drive away should you want someone else to handle the cooking part for you. Some particularly pretty restaurants are in Ligny-en-Barrois (15 minutes’ drive), a town on the canal that stretches between the rivers Rhine and Marne. The big city of Nancy is also a 55-minute drive away.

From the manager: Bonjour, Merci pour cette avis.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: A very interesting and unusual experience in late November 2023. The site is very rural, located just outside of the village, next to a cemetery. It's a duck farm with barns a little shop. As I believe I was the only person camping, it was quite hard to visualize it as a campsite but that's part of the adventure, right? I was given a glimpse behind the scenes when I was escorted through the building to talk with a young man who spoke English. Inside, I was reminded of my teenage days when I used to work at a chicken farm collecting eggs. Having just arrived, I was greeted by a very friendly man who kindly hooked me up to the electricity and I was also shown the bathroom facilities by a woman in the shop. Inside the small shop, I bought some duck rillettes and some local jam. When I woke in the morning, it was lovely to see the fields of landscape - I watched the sun come up whilst making myself a cup of coffee.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: Lovely welcoming owners, very kind and helpful. The site is on a working farm with lovely views and new and clean facilities. Great for a stop over while driving through France. 10-15mins drive from two small towns where you can pick up provisions and a takeaway. There is a lovely little shop on site which serves farm produce (duck products and Jam and Honey) - the owners opened especially for us on the our morning of departure. We will return!

Disliked: Nothing apart from the weather!

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: Really friendly site owner, and very helpful, especially with our electric hook up. Very peaceful, rural site on a working farm. Ideal for a quick stop over if travelling through France.

Disliked: Couldn't get the sink taps to work in the toilet and the shower was cold first thing (although my friend showered afterwards and said the water had warmed up). Assumed the boiler was a long way from the shower facility!

Local attractions

A day in the city or by the lake? For the former, Lac de Madine (50 minutes’ drive) is a dream for swimming, fishing and boating. And for the latter… set your sights on Nancy (55 minutes), a city with baroque and art nouveau buildings, an impressive square with rococo fountains and a medieval old town. While you’re on the matter of historic sites, check out Hattonchatel Castle (50 minutes), an 11th-century castle with stunning countryside views. Fort de Fermont (an hour and 45 minutes) has a World War I bunker. Museums are also a big attraction around this area. There are a number of them in Toul (half an hour), which can be paired with vineyard visits in the surrounding countryside. Musée du Verre (two hours and 20 minutes) in Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche is a museum about glass and crystal. If you’re in the mood for a safari of sorts, the wildlife park Parc animalier de Sainte-Croix (an hour and 40 minutes) has over 100 species of animals.
