  • Dog-friendly site in Parc de Brabois on the outskirts of Nancy
  • A 20-minute drive to Place Stanislas; walk to the botanical gardens
  • Indoor swimming pool, multi-sports and pétanque courts; barbecue area
Making your escape to Nancy to marvel at the UNESCO World Heritage square and Art Nouveau landmarks? Simple – set yourself down at Camping Le Brabois, which is just 20 minutes’ drive southwest of the historical centre. This dog-friendly site is based in Parc de Brabois, which has gravel boulevards and woodland trails half an hour’s walk from the spectacular, 27-hectare Jean-Marie Pelt Botanical Garden. What a setting - Nancy, once the capital of the Duchy of Lorraine, has everything from successions of flowerbeds to architectural marvels and sites like the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Place Stanislas (20 minutes’ drive) and the 19th-century Basilica of Saint Epvre of Nancy (20 minutes). If you’d like to cool off after exploring the city, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a heated indoor swimming pool at Camping Le Brabois. The roof of the pool opens during good weather and frills include massage jets, a waterfall and hot tubs. There’s a library, botanical educational path, a TV room, Zen relaxation area and a barbecue area around the site too when you’re looking to relax some more. Keep up the action if you wish. The site has a multi-sports court, kids’ playground, ping-pong table, pétanque court and inflatable games. No matter how much energy you or the kids use up, there’s always a snack bar to fall back on for lunch or dinner when you’re not scoping out Nancy’s restaurants. There’s also a food shop on site that has fresh bread up for grabs – handy for any packed lunches. From time to time, the site also organises family entertainment between mid-July and mid-August.

Electric optional grass and earth tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The playground is nice. That's it.

Disliked: The staff was unfriendly. One implied I was lying so that wasn't a pleasant experience at all. You have to pay extra for a lot of things (wifi, electricity outlet - which is not included when you pay for electricity). You cannot change reservations. Wouldn't return this campingsite or any other of this chain.

Electric optional grass and earth tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Location was great for one night, facilities were good, onsite restaurant was great, staff very friendly and helpful

Disliked: Checking in was long, 45 minutes standing in the blazing sun, some shade over the waiting area would’ve been great, and maybe some more organisation on the checking in process.

Local attractions

Whether you’re planning to purchase the Pass Lorraine from Nancy’s tourist office, which has discounts on tourist sites, or just seeing how you fare, there’s plenty to look forward to in Nancy. Check out the art deco pieces in the 18th-century Château de Montaigu (20 minutes’ drive) and fine arts at the Museum of Fine Arts in Nancy (20 minutes). Every evening between June and September, Nancy’s monuments are lit up by impressive sound and light shows too. Keen to see the museums? They include the Musée de l'École de Nancy (10 minutes) all about the Art Nouveau movement and the Nancy Museum-Aquarium (20 minutes), which has a mix of live tanks and stuffed creatures from history. Seeing wildlife in their natural habitats isn’t as far away as you might expect from a city, either. There’s plenty of wildlife around the beeches in Haye Forest (15 minutes) and hiking or treetop trails too. Further on, the Lorraine Regional Nature Reserve (from around half an hour) has orchards, forests, rivers, lakes and plenty of trails to get out over.
