  • Peaceful site set among the forested slopes of the Creuse valley
  • UNESCO-listed Aubusson and its tapestry museum 20 minutes' drive away
  • Pool, waterslide, terrace restaurant and walking and cycling trails
A stay at Camping La Perle will have you pitched up among the splendiferous cliffs and wooded hillsides of the cracking Creuse valley, positioned for visits to the handsome UNESCO-listed village of Aubusson and its fun and family-friendly waterpark and wellness complex, as well as promenades and pedals around the valley’s 2,500-kilometre network of waymarked trails. As you'd expect, you'll need pack your comfiest walking shoes to make the very most of La Perle’s spectacular setting, and you’d be well-advised to include something to keep you occupied while relaxing to the soothsome distant clanking of Limousin cowbells around its peaceful and beautly bucolic surrounds. Around the area, hiking and mountain biking routes run close to the site to get your sightseeing off to a gentle start, and you can also head 15 minutes’ walk away to the banks of the Creuse river, for swimming and fly fishing. Meanwhile back at base, the site’s restaurant and bar has a highly scenic and super handy terrace that looks out over the park’s other leisure facilities – comprising a playground, a heated outdoor pool with a waterslide and a separate kids' paddling pool – meaning that when grownups aren’t actively policing playtime action, they can survey their offspring’s antics from a most comfortable distance while carefreely sipping on an afternoon aperitif or two. As well as delighting at the playground and outdoor pool, kids will be super stoked when they get a load of the site’s petting zoo too, where they can make firm friends with Bonnie Blue the horse and his equine pal Twister, as well as their feline friend Nemo, parrot pal Silver and Diesel the dog. And toppingly, the mini farm’s pièce de résistance is a rather cute rabbit village, where bunnies bounce their merry way around their own bunny bar, church and school.

Local attractions

From the site, get stuck into hiking and cycling among 2,500 kilometres of trails around the area’s crackingly scenic countryside, or if you’re an avid angler, bring along your fishing kit to take down with you to the banks of the Creuse river, which flows peacefully around a kilometre away from Camping La Perle. Those of a golfing persuasion, you’re in luck too: you’ll be able to proudly don your obligatory checked-pants-plus-snazzy-jumper combo and head over to Gouzon, half an hour’s drive away, for putts among an 18-hole course of 120 hectares. A short drive away there's UNESCO-listed Aubusson village, famed for its tapestry-making heritage; spend half a day pottering around its narrow cobbled streets gawping up at its hugely handsome historic buildings and exploring its tapestry museum. If you’re in the area on a Friday, a flea and farmers' market is in Felletin, 20-minutes’ drive away, for procuring local produce and precious local bargains too. Should the kids not quite yet be of the history-appreciating age/antique-hunting persuasion, take them instead to Aubusson’s fab indoor pool complex to set them off happily whooshing down waterslides – the added bonus is that it’s got something for grownups too, as it’s cleverly been kitted out with a sauna and a hammam to get all steamily relaxed among.
