  • Scenic family-friendly Christian site on the banks of the Loyre river
  • A 40-minute drive from Brive-la-Gaillarde and Limoges
  • Restaurant, heated pool, bike rental and Sunday services on site
Settle in for a stay at Camping La Bonne Source and you’ll no doubt soon be giving thanks and praise, as this family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the little Corrèze village of Saint-Martin-Sepert is all geared up for faith-based stays that allow Christian visitors to spend their hols with like-minded guests. There’s no shortage of traditional outdoorsy activities here – kids’ crafting sessions, horse riding and campfire singalongs are all part of the schedule – but they’re supplemented here with daily youth evenings and weekly Sunday meetings for guests to gather and worship together. And there’s much to praise about the splendid setting too, on the banks of the Loyre river and with lots of leafy shade and open space to cater for both sun-seekers and those who require cool corners. Hikes and bike outings are both good ways to get out to see some of the surrounds; hire plenty of routes of different levels crisscross this scenic part of Limousin, and bikes can be hired on site if you’ve not brought your own wheels along. Cool off after such endeavours with a dip in the open-air pool back at base, or an ice cream from the restaurant. Need rather more sustenance than that? The restaurant serves dinner too, with tables under the trees for warmer evenings, and guests can look forward to tasty breakfasts too (as long as they remember to put in an order for their morning delivery of bread and pastries before toddling off to bed…)

Local attractions

This part of the world is packed with pretty towns and villages to visit. Riverside Ségur-le-Château (half an hour’s drive), medieval Saint-Robert (45 minutes) and red-bricked Collonges-la-Rouge (50 minutes) are all good options if you’re after something small and traditional. Not small enough? Head to Les Petits Trains de Seilhac (25 minutes), where miniature trains chug round the model village. Bigger Brive-la-Gaillarde and Limoges are both 40 minutes away; the latter is famed for its porcelain production but also has an aquarium and underground tunnel tours for kids who aren’t enthralled by fine china. Châteaux, too, are in plentiful supply – Château Pompadour (20 minutes) is the closest, and home to lots of horsey events at the National Stud Farm, but you might also like to head a little further afield to visit Château de Bonneval (half an hour) and Château de Jumilhac (50 minutes). Getting back to nature, there are lots of walks to be had in the Millevaches en Limousin regional nature park and Périgord-Limousin regional nature park (both 45 minutes), canoe trips on the Vézère river (20 minutes) and freshwater swims at Lac de Pontcharal (15 minutes).
