  • A half-hour drive to Turenne and Curemonte; an hour from Lascaux Caves
  • Golf course, lake and beach, swimming pool, restaurant, bar and shop
If you’re looking for an outdoorsy camping holiday spot with enough to keep adults and kids happily entertained, Camping Paradis Le Coiroux is a spot to consider. Set near Aubazines in the Corrèze department of central France, the site sits in 180 hectares of forest close to all manner of sporty facilities. For starters, there’s a heated outdoor pool on site (open May–September), and a playground with a climbing tower and bouncy castle awaits for younger kids. Teens and grownups can knock a ball around on the multi-sports ground and get stuck into games of pétanque or volleyball. Activity leaders organise creative fun at a kids’ club, as well as treasure hunts, archery or ‘aquafun’ sessions for the whole family. Summer evenings are punctuated by concerts and themed meals, and you can release your inner diva at karaoke nights. If all that’s not enough, the site is 300 metres from a lake with beach access, watersports amenities and tennis courts, and close by there’s a ropes course in the treetops and a 27-hole golf course. The spacious pitches here can be shaded or sunny depending on your preference, and there’s a shower block with a laundry area. If you’re after a break from cooking, the terrace restaurant overlooking the pool serves local dishes, as well as drinks and ice cream for daytime treats – and you can pick up bread and basics at the grocery corner.

Electric optional grass and gravel pitch

Local attractions

Located in hill country between the museums and shopping streets of Brive-la-Gaillarde (half an hour’s drive) and the monastery at Tulle (25 minutes), this site makes a handy base for exploring the surrounding region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine. The winding alleys of Aubazine (10 minutes) turn up a Cistercian abbey and waterside strolls along the Canal des Moines – you can also get there along a hiking and cycling path from the campsite – well worth the effort for the countryside views. Collonges-la-Rouge, Turenne and Curemonte (all half an hour) are delightful spots included among the 'most beautiful villages in France', each worth a visit for their grand châteaux – and don’t forget that each many of these villages have markets filled with local produce just waiting to be sampled. Further afield are the famous Dordogne towns; discover the torture museum and cathedral at medieval Sarlat-la-Canéda (an hour and 20 minutes) and stop off at cute cliffside Rocamadour (an hour and 10 minutes) for its shops and lively terrace bars. The Lascaux Caves (an hour) reveal famous prehistoric paintings and the Gouffre de Padirac (55 minutes) is known for its spectacular gorge scenery and subterranean boat tours.
