With a river running alongside, lots of trees for shade and plenty of green space, you’ll most certainly be in a rural spot when you stay at Camping Verte Rive, in the Pyrénées-Orientales’ Vellespir Valley and a short drive from the Spanish border. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down for a while, simply breathing in the fabulous fresh air, listening to the birds singing in the trees and enjoying quiet evenings under the stars. You won’t feel like you’re completely cut off here though – handily, the small town of Saint-Laurent-de-Cerdans is about 15 minutes’ walk away, putting you within easy reach of a bar, a small supermarket and a bakery. And that’s a real bonus for sourcing supplies to fuel your activities, whether you’re planning a quiet day of fishing in the river on site or tackling more adventurous activities (hiking, mountain biking, canyoning and paragliding are all available nearby). There are a couple of options for gentle activity on site too, with a playground and pétanque court for guest use; you’ll also have free use of the municipal swimming pool five minutes’ walk away (which has a kids’ pool and waterslide as well as the main pool and sun terrace). Simple facilities on site are all geared up to help you have a comfortable stay without disturbing the peace – you’ll have access to a launderette, chemical disposal point, washing-up area and toilets and showers with wheelchair-accessible facilities. There’s no wifi here though; it’s all about encouraging you to connect with nature instead.

Liked Pretty stream running along bottom of site. Quiet and peaceful with lovely countryside around.

Disliked Owner refused to accept I had paid a deposit through pitchup, so I had to pay that twice! The pool is the municipal one, not on site.

Local attractions

Hiking and mountain biking trails are plentiful around here – the site is close to the GR10 trail and a network of scenic routes through the Canigó Massif. Intrepid climbers will want to make their way up Pic du Canigó itself (about an hour’s drive away) while wildlife spotters head to the gentler trails of the Refugi de Marelles (an hour and a half). If you’re feeling brave you may also like to have a go at canyoning activities at Canyon Cascades de Baoussous (40 minutes) or take to the skies with Paragliding 66 Biplace&Stage (45 minutes). Not up for such things? Stroll around pretty little villages like Arles (20 minutes) and Céret (40 minutes) or relax in the thermal waters at Amélie-les-Bains-Palalda (25 minutes). For full day trips, you could visit the historic sights of Perpignan, head to the seaside at Argelès-sur-Mer or Collioure, or cross the border into Spain for lunch in the colourful town of Camprodon. All are about an hour’s drive away.

Admission

Admission is only permitted after registering at reception.
All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
