  • Glamping site with wooden cabins on raised platforms in the forest
  • Two kilometres from medieval Prats-de-Mollo-La-Preste and Fort Lagarde
  • Breakfast baskets delivered to cabins each morning
Breakfast in the woods, with the sun (hopefully) streaming through the trees, the birds singing and squirrels and deer darting about? How pleasantit is to start the day at Mont'Ôz Arbres, a glamping site two kilometres from the medieval town of Prats-de-Mollo-La-Preste in the Pyrénées-Orientales. To make things even better, you’ll not even have to lift a finger to acquire that petit dejeuner – the generous folk here scoot around the various corners of the forest every morning to deliver a breakfast basket to every one of the wooden cabins. All that remains to be done is to open it up and lay out a feast – ideally on your private deck for excellent views as you eat. And what of the rest of the day? Well, you might opt to go deeper into the woods by following one of the site’s walking trails, stroll up to town for rampart wanderings and foodie pickings at the restaurants and shops, or venture out into the wider region for visits to historic sites, natural landscapes and other family-friendly days out: all followed up with a soothing soak in Amélie-les-Bains’ thermal waters...

Local attractions

If you’re planning a walk through the Gorges de la Fou (half an hour away), it’s probably best that you go early on in your hols: the pathway here wends its way through what’s said to be the narrowest gorge in the world, so leave it too late in your break and all the tasty local food may lead to it being rather more of a squeeze... Plenty more options are around the area for burning off a few more croissant related calories: walks and mountain bike rides in the forest and nature reserve perhaps, or a history-tinged hike starting with the medieval ramparts of Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste and heading on to the Vauban fortification Fort Lagarde (a steep climb but one that’s rewarded with some super views). The site is very close to the Spanish border, so slip across to Molló Parc (25 minutes), a family-friendly adventure park with high ropes courses and animals to meet. Stay on the French side and thermal baths await at the spa town of Amélie-les-Bains (40 minutes).
