  • Small, peaceful and remote Pyrénées-Orientales site near Boule-d'Amont
  • Half an hour's drive to Ille-sur-Têt; an hour to Perpignan
  • Snacks, drinks and meals available to order; dogs welcome on site
Peace, privacy and pretty Pyrenees views are the key features of Mas del Capella, a small site on a remote 10-acre private property in Pyrénées-Orientales. There are just a handful of pitches at this site near Boule-d'Amont, so all guests should have plenty of space to relax and soak up the splendid scenery. Taking even a quick look at your surroundings is bound to entice you to get out and about – and there are plenty of ways to do that here, whether your preference is for walks, bike rides (perhaps on an e-bike hired from the site), horse riding or scenic drives. You’ll also be well placed for exploring towns like Prades and Céret, for city wanders in Perpignan or for seaside days in the likes of Argelès-sur-Mer. Whether you choose to roam far and wide or stay close to base, you’ll be coming back to a quiet site where you’ll be able to set your pitch up as you wish, perhaps setting up a gazebo or awning or just getting your camping chairs ready for an evening drink with a view. Each pitch has an electric connection (powered by solar energy) and the site also has handy shared facilities including a washing machine, a communal fridge, drinking water tap, dry toilets and hot showers. As this is a pretty remote location, it’s not that easy to pop out for a meal, so it’s handy that there are snacks and hot and cold drinks (including local wines) available on site, and you can also order meals.

Liked Very remote campsite. Owners very nice and accommodating.
Has all basic amenities but expect rustic.

Disliked The only thing that I personally disliked was the drive up the scenic mountain roads.
I wouldn't drive here in the dark.

Liked Beautiful remote location (up a long and windy road). Very peaceful. Starry night. Lovely owners and very helpful. Eco friendly. Walks from the door including up to GR10. Dog friendly at no extra charge. Planned as a one night. Stayed two. Would have stayed longer if could.

Disliked One compost /dry loo by the pitches and one (lovely hot) shower up by the house. Absolutely fine for us but if more staying, could be a bit of an issue.

Local attractions

If you’re planning some walks while you’re here, a good way to warm up is with a short stroll to the village of Boule-d’Amont to see the Sant Sadurní church. Other interesting sights to include on your hikes nearby include Serrabone Priory, the Tour de batère and the little Trinitat de Bellpuig chapel. The site owners are very happy to give suggestions and information about the best walking trails nearby. About half an hour’s drive away is Ille-sur-Têt, which is well worth visiting for its ‘organs’ – unusual rock formations that look uncannily like organ pipes. A slightly longer drive of about 45 minutes will get you to attractive towns like Thuir, Prades and Céret, or to wander among the blooms of Jardin Exotique de Ponteilla. For a full day out, head to Perpignan (an hour) to visit the citadel, the cathedral, Le Castillet and the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, or pack your swimming stuff and continue on to Argelès-sur-Mer (an hour and 10 minutes) for a dip in the Mediterranean Sea.
