What a gorgeous setting… Camping Les Gorges de l'Hérault in the Gard's department's chunk of the Cévennes, the mountain range home to the spectacular Gorges du Tarn, and near the massive landform of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Cirque de Navacelles.
The site also has access to a private river for swimming, as well as over 400 metres of private riverside beaches, and is near the town of Sumène, where the active-minded can arrange days out canyoning, hiking, canoeing and mountain biking. Top pick? Paragliding over the smashing local landscape.

Local attractions
Camping Les Gorges de l’Hérault is near the heritage site of the spectacular Cirque de Navacelles, carved into the limestone millenia ago by a meander of the Vis river and now one of the Grands Sites de France. It's a must-see in these parts; descend 300 metres to the bottom to get to the Vis waterfall, a nature trail, and the tiny village of Navacelles.
Also anciently, the nearby Grotte des Demoiselles is a humongous limestone cave stretching for kilometres under the Hérault valley, with its main entrance at Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois. They had the first underground open funicular in Europe, taking visitors right to the top of the mountain through caverns and mammoth stalactites and stalagmites: do bring a camera. A café with terrace is at the top of the mountain for coffee with jaw-dropping views.
The site's local town is Sumène, about 20 kilometres from both Sauve and Saint-Martin-de-Londres.
