  • Spacious pitches at a smart estate on the edge of the village of Sauve
  • Close to Cévennes National Park; 40 minutes' drive to Nîmes
  • Outdoor pools, gym, pétanque and snack bar on site
Lots of people like to include a walk to a waterfall or lake on their schedule or holiday activities – but what if you could do that without even leaving the place you're staying? Well, that’s exactly what you'll be able to do at Domaine de Bagard, a gorgeous Gard estate that boasts its own small spring-fed lake and waterfall… Those compact water features on site (and the lovely views from the hillside setting) are likely to entice you to get out and explore your surroundings – and that’s certainly something you should do, as there’s much to enjoy around here, including riverside rambles, cave visits, hikes in the 'Sea of Rocks' and walks to bigger waterfalls. The edge of the Cévennes National Park isn’t far off, either – and for a change of scenery you can drive to either Nîmes or Montpellier in less than an hour. But before all that, it's time to check out what's on site – because this place has been very well set up for guests, with facilities including an outdoor pool area (with a main pool and paddling pool, plus sun loungers and parasols for your sunbathing comfort), a pétanque court, a gym and a play area. The guinguette area incorporates a snack bar and a mini market, so you’ll be sorted for food whether you fancy cooking or not. The village of Sauve is only about 10 minutes' walk away too, for more eating and shopping options. As befits a smart country estate, the pitches here are spacious, well kept and marked out by hedges, with access to plenty of amenities including a launderette, bathrooms and a motorhome service area.

Local attractions

Ready for a walk? La Mer des Rochers (half an hour's walk to the trailhead) is a great place to start, for a hike on a well-marked trail through sizeable rocks to a viewpoint over the village of Sauve. Meanwhile, if you want to see something a bit bigger than the site's waterfall, head to La Cascade de la Vis (half an hour’s drive). Keen hikers may like to tackle Mont Aigoual (an hour and 20 minutes) – the highest peak in the Gard at 1567 metres. The cliffside village of Vézénobres (half an hour) is another place with excellent views – or you could go to the other end of the spectrum and get underground at the Caves of Trabuc (35 minutes). Back at ground level, The Bamboo Cevennes (25 minutes) makes a great day out, as do strolls around historic Nîmes (40 minutes) or cosmopolitan Montpellier (50 minutes), where you can finish your day by travelling a little further to have a dip in the Mediterranean.
