  • On the banks of the Gardon d’Anduze, 10 minutes' drive from Anduze
  • Eco-friendly car-free stays among 11 hectares, with a private beach
  • Pools, fitness centre, play areas, bar and restaurant
Potter along to this pedestrian-only Lézan park for secure strolling around its riverside setting… with heaps more hikes and ambles within easy reach among the Cévennes, local highlight Anduze, and the nearby bamboo garden of the Bambouseraie de Prafrance – among rather a lot more. It's mighty clever that Camping Le Mas des Chênes is a car-free site, since a full (and scenic – see pics) 11 hectares of greenery and grounds are around to wander, all safely explorable for all sizes. There's a river to amble along and to fish in – the site is on the banks of the Gardon d’Anduze (one of the cleanest rivers in the country, just so you know) – and if even that sounds a tad too much, you and the small sorts can settle down on the sandy riverside (private) beach instead. Loads more is at your disposal, including a lush round basin pool, play areas, a fitness centre and a games room, and a bar and restaurant for snacks, drinks and ice cream sales. The smart amenities were upgraded in 2017 to include two parent and baby areas; this eco-friendly site also has water-saving appliances in the bathrooms, low-energy bulbs all around, and extensive recycling. Finally, you may of course bring your car to Camping Le Mas des Chênes, but it must stay in the car park and not go roaming around the site, s'il vous plait.

Local attractions

This south of France setting is 10 minutes' drive – or about half an hour by bike – from the famed old pottery town of Anduze, home too to the Cévenol market on Thursdays and a night market on Tuesday evenings. The Bambouseraie de Prafrance bamboo garden is just outside town. Two musts around Anduze are the Cévennes steam train, leaving from here on its handsome run along to Saint-Jean-du-Gard (via the bamboo garden if you'd like to alight there), and the vastly spectacular Trabuc cave, the biggest in the Cévennes. More caverns are at La Cocalière, 50 minutes' drive away. Closer to your riverside base, kids should be fur-ly pleased with a look at the Musée des Poupées et Nounours (Doll and Teddy Bear Museum) at Lézan, and the huge outdoor amusement park with adventure pool and farm animals at Saint-Chaptes, 25 minutes away. Mediterranean beaches at Le Grau-du-Roi are within an hour and 15 minutes.
