Settle down in a Cathar Country wildlife haven between mountains and beaches at Camping Figurotta. What a location this welcoming and family-friendly site has, surrounded by vineyards and countryside, just a 10-minute drive from the vast former Cistercian monastery, Abbaye de Fontfroide. Here, beach days are easily arranged: from the site, it's a half-hour drive to the beaches of Gruissan and Narbonne Plage, and the beach at Port-la-Nouvelle is just a little further away (40 minutes). Samantha, Yannick and family run things on an amicable basis here, with a decent range of modern facilities including a seasonal pool surrounded by a sunbathing area with sunloungers; a paddling pool; a playground; a pétanque court and a ping pong table. Board games can be borrowed from the reception if you feel the urge to get competitive. There's also a fitness centre on site, so you need not fall off your fitness regime. Camping Figurotta also has a snack bar, open in July and August; the staff here can also take orders for baguettes and croissants to be delivered fresh the next morning. There is also wifi on site.

Liked Schöner schattiger Platz. Wir haben eine grosse Parzelle bekommen. Der Empfang war sehr freundlich. Das Restaurant gemütlich. Der Pool etwas klein aber OK.

Disliked Das WC und die Duschen für so einen grossen Platz etwas wenig. Leider sind Männer und Frauen nicht getrennt. Ansonsten Ok.

Liked Friendly staff. Clean plentiful toilets and showers. Attractive swimming pool. Fresh bread/croissant/pastry delivery daily.

Disliked Pitch smallish and very uneven. Also just earth which could be a problem in wet weather. Road noise was a bit tiresome, in use continuously and visible from the pitch. No restaurant or snack bar and bar closed at 6pm

Liked Beautiful site in nature, amongst the trees, peaceful friendly receptionist who spoke perfect English.
Fantastic wifi, which is a first!

Disliked Shame pool and bar are only open 2 months of the year, we arrived on 15th April and it was scorching, a dip would if been perfect.
A little noisy at times due to being near road.

From the A9, take the Narbonne Sud exit in the direction of Carcassonne. At the roundabout Montredon des Corbières, follow the signs to Bizanet (D613 then D224). The site is on the left before Bizanet.

Local attractions

Many walking and hiking trails crisscross the vineyards of this part of Languedoc-Roussillon, traversing or ending up at small regional villages where the local gastronomy and tasty wines should most certainly be sampled. By car, a 20-minute drive will get you to the medieval village of Lagrasse, one of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, and to Minerve, famed for its wine production (which is saying quite a lot in these vineyardy parts). The 300 hectares and 3,800 or so inhabitants of animal park Réserve Africaine de Sigean are also about 20 minutes away. Thirty kilometres away, have a day around the museums, shops and bars of the city of Carcassonne, the splendid fortified town with a UNESCO World Heritage Site medieval fortress.
