  • Riverside camping on the banks of the Seine
  • Multilingual team and many sports activities available
  • Close to popular attractions such as the gardens of Monet at Giverny
If you're the (sensible) sort to err towards riverside camping as a favoured hol in la belle France, at some point it'll have to be on the banks of the Seine. Camping Caravaning Loisirs Des Groux is a sensible pick if so – not only has it direct access to France's famed watery spot for fishing, sailing and riverside strolls, its Yvelines department's locale has it within easy day trip distance of France's glittery capital: Paris river cruises on the Seine very much a must. Other famed French attractions are within easy driving distance, like the gardens of Monet 15 minutes away at Giverny, many handsomely traditional French villages, and the spectacular varied landscapes of the vast Vexin Français Regional Nature Park, scenery so arty that it's inspired painty types like Cézanne and Van Gogh. On site, the friendly multilingual team arranges regular tournaments of pétanque and volleyball and nights of barbecue and karaoke, as well as looking after the clean and comfy facilities of showers and toilet blocks, play area, launderette and a cute wooden reception where you can get help in French, English or German to plan your day trips to explore this lush land. Camping Caravaning Loisirs Des Groux also has a small shop selling fresh bread and pastries, ice creams, hot and cold drinks and tasty local specialties.

Local attractions

What lovely and activity-filled land this is… Start off first with fishing on site into the River Seine, before ambles along its banks or taking a craft out on its waters: the Camping Caravaning Loisirs Des Groux team can point you in the right direction for boat hire and other watery activities along the river's banks. Next up should be Giverny 15 minutes' drive away, to see Claude Monet's House and Gardens, the lush space where the artist lived for over 40 years and now a space for a flower garden and a Japanese water garden as well as a museum in Monet's former house. Another beaut trip nearby is to the famed village of La-Roche-Guyon and its twelfth century château with aeons of history: it was the scene of a six-month siege after the Battle of Agincourt, and the site of General Rommel's defence of Normandy for the Allies in World War II. The fifteenth century Church of Saint-Samson in the village is also well worth a look. The vast Vexin Français Regional Nature Park covers 71,000 hectares with over 800 kilometres of trails and bike paths among a handsome landscape of villages, forests, hills and rivers: visit the park centre in the Château deThéméricourt for info on it and its environment, and take a trip along the river Oise from the launching points at  Auvers-sur-Oise and back at La Roche-Guyon.
