  • Family-friendly site with an adventure park at Étretat in Normandy
  • Étretat Caux Tourist Train five minutes’ drive; cider farm 10 minutes
  • Zipwires, climbing, quad biking and mini golf on site (at extra cost)
When you need lots of activities to keep your brood busy and happy on holiday, booking into Étretat Aventure (five minutes’ drive from rural Les Loges in Upper Normandy) would seem to be an act of common sense. After all, the site comes with a very big bonus – an adventure park adjacent to the accommodation. Yes, for an extra charge, you and the kids (aged from three upwards) can get stuck into various activities right on site: tree climbing and high-level rope courses, rock climbing, quad biking and electric scooters are all on the roster, as well as zipwires, a miniature golf course, a jump cushion, pony rides and various small furry creatures in the petting zoo. The park’s shared facilities comprise showers, toilets and basins (please note there are no private bathrooms) at reception, where you can also buy cold soft drinks, homemade crêpes and ice creams to keep energy levels up.

Treecamp treehouse

Local attractions

Just in case the fun and games on site are not enough to keep you all happily busy, you can wear off any remaining energy on the scenic Étretat Caux Tourist Train (five minutes’ drive), a pedal railway that runs downhill from Les Loges to Étretat through scenic countryside. Older kids who have outgrown trotting around on ponies can also take riding lessons or go trekking on well-trained horses at Area Equestrian Étretat (15 minutes). It’s more likely, however, that a relaxing day on the beach will be called for. Plage d’Étretat (10 minutes) is a sweeping sandy crescent peppered with rock stacks, while quiet Plage du Fourquet (20 minutes) is backed by the soaring chalk cliffs typical of Normandy’s dramatic Alabaster Coast. Head to Falaise d’Aval (15 minutes) to see the local landmarks Porte d’Aval sea arch and L’Aiguille rock pinnacle. For a change of pace and a taste of Normandy, take a tour of the apple orchards at the local cider farm (10 minutes), where you can taste (and buy, of course) their cider and Calvados. If you’d like to know more about the region’s signature drink, the Ecomusée de la Pomme et du Cidre (15 minutes) offers an informative walk-through of the production process.
