Heading off to Haute-Saône and hoping to find a little haven of peace for your stay? Take a look at Camping Les Grands Prés, a small-scale site in Aboncourt-Gesincourt, about 25 minutes’ drive from Vesoul. This site is handily located just off the D56 so it’s a useful spot for a stopover, but it’s also a lovely peaceful place in which to settle for a few days chilling out in a green setting and exploring the various activities around the local area (walking, cycling, fishing, château visiting and wine tasting among them). This is a place that’s all geared up to help guests relax and soak up the rural atmosphere – pitches are spacious and shaded, with access to picnic tables and a covered dining area with a fridge, microwave and dining tables (homemade breakfasts and other meals can also be ordered on request if you don’t feel like cooking). Each pitch has water and electric hook-up and shared facilities include a motorhome service point and clean bathrooms with showers and toilets. While you’re here you’ll have free access to the pétanque court and ping-pong table; for an extra fee you can also rent bikes or book massages and treatments at the wellness chalet. Groups, couples, families and solo travellers are all welcome at this friendly site; dogs are permitted too, and have a special area where they can have a good run around.

Liked A very nice place for camping! We stayed here with our car and tent for one night. The owner welcomed us very warmly. The site is set back from the village behind a cemetery, has four pitches with electrical hookups, and a large meadow. An area surrounded by tall trees features several terrace-like areas that invite you to linger and relax. A lot of plants have been planted recently, and once they're fully grown, you'll have a very romantic spot! Basic cooking and barbecue facilities are available, as well as a large lawn for playing soccer and a weatherproof table tennis table. The sanitary facilities are very basic but clean. We were even treated to delicious coffee in the morning.

Disliked Same old bottles were staying around, probably from an Weekend-Barbecue 🤷‍♂️

Local attractions

The Saône river is only a few minutes’ drive from the site, and a lovely place to try out some fishing or follow one of the walking/cycling trails in the Saône Valley. If you’d like to get into the water, head to Lac de Vesoul – Vaivre (25 minutes’ drive), which has a lake beach area, an aqua park and various watersports to try out (including canoeing, windsurfing and pedal boats). That lake is on the edge of Vesoul, and while you’re in town you could also visit the Jardin Anglais and Musée Georges-Garret and take a stroll around the Old Town. Just outside the town are Circuit de la Vallée-Sport Karting for the daredevils among you and a couple of wineries that make for a more relaxing visit. Looking a little further afield, you could have a taste of the area’s history with a visit to Château de Ray-sur-Saône (half an hour), take the kids to try out all the attractions at Guiguitte en folie (45 minutes) or feel like giants wandering among all the tiny buildings at Park Miniature Plombières-les-Bains (50 minutes).
