  • Small and peaceful site just off the D56 in Aboncourt-Gesincourt
  • A few minutes' drive from the Saône river; 25 minutes to Vesoul
  • Massages, homemade meals and bike hire available to book on site
Heading off to Haute-Saône and hoping to find a little haven of peace for your stay? Take a look at Camping Les Grands Prés, a small-scale site in Aboncourt-Gesincourt, about 25 minutes’ drive from Vesoul. This site is handily located just off the D56 so it’s a useful spot for a stopover, but it’s also a lovely peaceful place in which to settle for a few days chilling out in a green setting and exploring the various activities around the local area (walking, cycling, fishing, château visiting and wine tasting among them). This is a place that’s all geared up to help guests relax and soak up the rural atmosphere – pitches are spacious and shaded, with access to picnic tables and a covered dining area with a fridge, microwave and dining tables (homemade breakfasts and other meals can also be ordered on request if you don’t feel like cooking). Each pitch has water and electric hook-up and shared facilities include a motorhome service point and clean bathrooms with showers and toilets. While you’re here you’ll have free access to the pétanque court and ping-pong table; for an extra fee you can also rent bikes or book massages and treatments at the wellness chalet. Groups, couples, families and solo travellers are all welcome at this friendly site; dogs are permitted too, and have a special area where they can have a good run around.

What customers say

Guests describe a peaceful and welcoming campsite with friendly hosts, often praised for their generous hospitality and delicious breakfasts. The site offers quiet, rural surroundings and good facilities, including a dog park. While some appreciate the basic but clean sanitary facilities, others note the cold shower rooms or temporary water issues during freezing temperatures. Communication can be a challenge for non-French speakers, though hosts attempt to assist. Litter was noted once but promptly cleared. Manager comments indicate improvements such as added signage.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked The family who run and own this campsite are wonderfully welcoming and friendly. The lady who checked us in was really helpful, and two of the gentlemen came over to say hello and introduce themselves. We’re both British and did our best with our limited French, using a translator when needed — it never felt like a barrier at all.

After we’d settled in, one of the gentlemen came over to our campervan bearing gifts of fresh tomatoes and chives from his own garden — absolutely delicious, and such a generous, unexpected touch.

The campsite itself is beautifully quiet, surrounded by mature trees, with woodpeckers audible in the background. There’s a genuinely decent-sized, enclosed dog park where you can let your dog run free, which we really appreciated.

We were lucky enough to have the site to ourselves during our stay — there are only 4 pitches for motorhomes/campervans (not sure if tents are accommodated).

Amazing place — our only regret is that we were only here for one night, transiting back from Switzerland. We’d happily stay longer next time.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your wonderful review and your very kind words.
It was a real pleasure to welcome you to our little campsite. We are delighted that you enjoyed the peace and nature, the dog park, and of course the tomatoes and chives from the garden 😊
We also really enjoyed meeting you, and the language difference was no barrier at all!
We would be very happy to welcome you again, and hopefully for a little longer next time.
Have a safe journey and see you again one day!

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked We found this lovely campsite as we were looking for one halfway between Soulaine-Dhuys in France and Basel in Switzerland. It’s such a beautiful spot with kind and friendly hosts. We were fortunate to have the site to ourselves for most of our 2 night stay, our pitch was perfect and we spent some time lying on the sun loungers provided taking in the sights and sounds of the surrounding countryside. There is a clean and comfortable single bathroom block with loo and shower and outside there are basic facilities for cleaning pots and pans etc. We enjoyed breakfast provided by the hosts on our first morning there - decent coffee, baguette and brioche toast and 2 homemade jams (the rhubarb jam was just delicious) for I think 4 euros each. The night before we were given some homegrown tomatoes which were beautiful too. Served at the outdoor terrace area beside the pitches. There were cooked options too, such as scrambled egg, all v affordable. We had a couple of walks and gentle jogs in the local area and said hello to the local cows and horses. The nearest supermarket is a ten minute drive away in Jussey. I would say there is not absolutely loads to do for holidaymakers in the local area but this is a great site if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful stop en route somewhere - I think if you cycle there could be some good options around- we love outdoor swimming and tried the nearest option, a man made lake you pay to access which actually at least on the day we went had only a small and shallow section cordoned off in which to ‘swim’ (my knees touched the sand!), though there was a fabulous restaurant there that does a good veggie burger and chips. On return to the campsite, we played a couple of rounds of ping pong, boules is an option too plus there are goalposts for football.

We are delighted that you enjoyed the peace and quiet of our little campsite, the countryside, the facilities and our breakfast — especially the homemade rhubarb jam!
It was a real pleasure to welcome you and to share a few tomatoes from our garden with you.
We are very happy that our place gave you a peaceful break during your journey to Switzerland.
We would be delighted to welcome you again if your travels bring you back this way.

Liked Fun place. Owners were friendly but didn’t speak English. Communicated with google translate which wasn’t ideal but it worked and they tried. I stayed for only one night and it was fine. I didn’t have Wi-Fi but I also didn’t ask.

Disliked Like I said, they don’t speak good English. It was quite hard to communicate with them if you don’t speak French.

From the manager: Merci pour votre retour.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked Fabulous campsite. Lovely, quite, rural with open views and plenty of shade. Facilities are good and clean. We even had a table and chairs on a patio. We stopped here for an overnight and very soon decided that it was so good that we extended for another. We would have stayed furter but we had a long journey to complete. Marilyn and Roman are great, generous hosts they welcomed us, checked all was well and showed us around. We had the most wonderful, delicious breakfasts served to us on the patio. There are good, interesting cycle rides from the campsite on very quiet country roads. Cost for pitch and breakfast ( see photo's below)was less than we had paid for just a crowded pitch. We would very definitely recommend this and will return when we are in the area.

Disliked Nothing to dislike. If only they were all as good.

Liked My partner and i were very happy with everything about this campsite. The people running it are extremely pleasent and deserve high praise. Breakfast was lovely and we were even offered a late night meal when we arrived. We had to go shopping so politely declined, however im sure we missed out on a real treat. Id recommend the site to anyone looking for a peaceful and serene experience

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked The ladies went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The use of the indoor shower was amazing and very much needed.

Disliked We had some miscommunication with the Gentleman that was on the site - we thought it was ok to use the outside kitchen to wash up but we were present with what seemed to be a angry man shouting at us - not allowing us to explain and making us feel very uncomfortable as woman! It was such a shame as the site and the lady host was lovely!

Local attractions

The Saône river is only a few minutes’ drive from the site, and a lovely place to try out some fishing or follow one of the walking/cycling trails in the Saône Valley. If you’d like to get into the water, head to Lac de Vesoul – Vaivre (25 minutes’ drive), which has a lake beach area, an aqua park and various watersports to try out (including canoeing, windsurfing and pedal boats). That lake is on the edge of Vesoul, and while you’re in town you could also visit the Jardin Anglais and Musée Georges-Garret and take a stroll around the Old Town. Just outside the town are Circuit de la Vallée-Sport Karting for the daredevils among you and a couple of wineries that make for a more relaxing visit. Looking a little further afield, you could have a taste of the area’s history with a visit to Château de Ray-sur-Saône (half an hour), take the kids to try out all the attractions at Guiguitte en folie (45 minutes) or feel like giants wandering among all the tiny buildings at Park Miniature Plombières-les-Bains (50 minutes).
