With the mountains on one side and the sea not far away on the other, it must be said that Camping Le Sagone is in a particularly fab spot for a scenic Corsica holiday. And that’s before you’ve even heard about the site itself, which is on an 11-hectare park, on the banks of a river and surrounded by olive groves – it’s got plenty of shade and privacy from its collection of trees too. This is a place that prides itself on doing its best to protect the local environment, and its efforts have been rewarded with awards for its eco-friendly measures. Want to see some of that local area for yourself? Of course you do – and there are plenty of walks and water-based activities nearby to help you do just that. The closest mountain pass is around 12 kilometres away, and it’s a trip of two kilometres to get to Sagone’s beach and watersports rentals. E-bikes can be hired on site for an easy way to pedal around locally. There’s outdoor activity to be had at the park too: give yourself a good workout on the four-kilometre fitness trail, play a game of tennis or volleyball, or join in with summer activities including aqua gym and water polo. The pool is the place to relax after all that – it’s got a paddling pool for the smaller swimmers, and it’s heated and covered in the off season so you can still swim even on chillier days. Handy extras at this site include a launderette, washing-up area and bathrooms with accessible facilities; a supermarket is just by the entrance for your food supplies.

Liked Les emplacements spacieux et ombragés, les sanitaires toujours propres avec le personnel de nettoyage très agréable et toujours avec le sourire. Nous avons fait une rencontre extraordinaire avec Christian, notre rayon de soleil pour le camping, toujours à l'écoute, agréable, souriant tout le contraire de certaines personnes et sans oublier Joseph. Au resto 3 personnes à retenir Célia, Nolan et Marie Ange. Espace BBQ au top avec le SuperU sur le parking

Disliked Pour un camping 4 étoiles, pas d'eau chaude pendant 5 jours, la restauration si vous venez après 21h pas sur de manger ce qu'il y a sur la carte, mauvaise gestion des stocks, idem pour la soirée moules frites. Le personnel du bar, aucune organisation et manque de sourire, le stock zéro ou flemme d'aller en réserve. Pour la direction rien à dire, vu personne, aucun signe de sympathie

Liked Nice campsite, enough shade but also sunny spots. The toilets and showers were very clean.

Disliked Could be a bit noisy in the evenings as there can be activities every evening. However you can know this in advance.

Local attractions

A massive 40% of the island of Corsica has been designated as a regional natural park, so you shouldn’t find yourselves short of places to get out into stunning scenery for a walk or bike ride. The 200-kilometre GR20 is the most famous of the island’s trails but there are plenty of other shorter paths to pick from, taking in lakes, rivers and coastline as you ramble. Down in Sagone (five minutes’ drive), the beach is a good place to hire sailing boats and other watersports kit. You can also organise boat trips from the town’s harbour to take in the scenic Scandola Peninsula and Calanques de Piana, or see it all from below on a scuba diving trip from Cargèse (20 minutes). Mix up your coast and country time with a bit of time exploring the island’s urban areas too: Napoleon’s old haunt Ajaccio is 50 minutes’ drive away, and the smaller, quieter Porto is just under an hour away (and with a good aquarium for the kids).
