  • Dog-friendly shaded southern Corsica site five kilometres from Sartène
  • A 10-minute drive from Propriano’s beaches, with mountains further out
  • Bar, pizzeria, shop, sports activities, swimming pool and play areas
Whether it’s staying on this shaded southern Corsica site to practice your sports tricks and backstroke or mapping out the way to golden-sand beaches, mountain landscapes or scuba diving havens, holidays at Camping Olva are simply splendid. This seven-hectare site in Corse-du-Sud is both family-friendly and dog-friendly, with lots of options for activities… Propriano’s beaches are 10 minutes’ drive to the northwest for alfresco-style dining along the beachfront and a taste of sailing, boat trips or other watersports. As for medieval ramparts and an archaeological museum, the Corsican village of Sartène is 10 minutes’ drive to the south. Hiking in mountains and forests are further out, with waterfalls and wild animals galore. Then, there are the activities on the site itself, which extend to sports such as table tennis, pétanque, football and anything else you can conjure up in the multi-sports ground (basketball, football, volleyball, handball or Baby Foot Bonzini perhaps?) For other active pursuits, the site has a swimming pool, fitness room and play area. With fresh bread and pastries delivered to the site’s grocery store every morning and a bar and pizzeria other options about the site, the food side of things is nicely covered. In July and August, themed meals are organised and hosted by Corsican singers as a plus. As for the basics, Camping Olva has several washing machines and wifi in the lower part of the site (the reception, restaurant and its surroundings).

Local attractions

So, you have the coast set in your sights? The sandy Plage de Tizzano (half an hour’s drive) is a handy option for scuba diving, while Plage de Roccapina (45 minutes) has 400 metres of the golden stuff and family-friendly shallows. The scenery is spectacular from Campomoro Beach (25 minutes), but for more coves nearby Porto-Vecchio (an hour and 15 minutes), top picks include Beach Rondinara (an hour and 20 minutes) and Palombaggia (an hour and a half). Archaeology fans will be happy to find plenty of cool sites, from the Neolithic art of Filitosa (35 minutes) to the prehistoric Plateau de Cauria (35 minutes) and the Bronze Age remains at Cucuruzzu and Capula (half an hour). After some stunning hiking areas instead? Mountainous climbs await in Aiguilles de Bavella (55 minutes), Plateau du Coscione (an hour and 40 minutes) and L'Ospédale (an hour and five minutes, with ropes courses, canyoning, mountain biking and all sorts nearby). As for those of who want to live your island fantasy, take yourself off to Strait of Bonifacio (an hour and 15 minutes) for the Bouches de Bonifacio, Lavezzi and Cavallo Islands or Ajaccio (an hour and 25 minutes) and Archipel des Sanguinaires (an hour and 50 minutes).

Electric optional gravel and sand tent pitch (two person)

Liked: Nothing much, site on steep hill and ants everywhere.

Disliked: Male toilet out of order and most pitches were not accessible by motorcycle, had a look around and found an alternative site.
