Camping Étang de la Vallée: Pitches

General

  • Relaxed, nature-filled site on the banks of Étang de la Vallée
  • A 20-minute drive from the Loire; 40 minutes from Orléans
  • Lake beach, miniature golf, play area and café on site

Slow the pace of life with a stay at Camping Étang de la Vallée, a nature-filled site on the banks of a Loiret lake in the Forest of Orléans.

With large shaded pitches and views out over the water, this is a place where you and your family can really relax, perhaps taking a walk in the woods or using your lakeside location for a bit of fishing, watersports or swimming from the lake beach (supervised in high season). If any kids in your party need a bit more activity, send them along to the site’s playground, miniature golf course or games area with table tennis.

A café, food shop and bread delivery service are all on hand to provide eats, and barbecues are allowed if you fancy a bit of outdoor grilling. A local produce market is open once a week in July and August to give you a taste of the best of the local area. Other amenities on site include a launderette, wifi, showers and toilets.

When you’re not spending your time chilling out on site, there’s plenty to keep you busy in the local area, including horse riding, bike rides and boat trips. Orléans is about 40 minutes’ drive away for an urban day out, or you could head down to the banks of the Loire in about 25 minutes for kayak outings or a visit to Château de Sully-sur-Loire.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

Reception is unmanned after 7 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Beautiful quiet site, continuous bird song, friendly reception staff (with English spoken), electric and water available on the pitch, clean toilet block/showers/pot washing area. Lovely boulangerie & a great small supermarket in Vitry just 3km away. The lake with beach is right opposite the campsite gates, and there are lots of paths and trails through the woods around.

    Disliked:

Bit frustrating that mobile phone signal pretty poor (no camp wifi) so difficult to plan next few days’ itinerary. Not the camp’s fault though & there’s v good 4G connection in Vitry, 3km away.

Local attractions

There are lots of fabulous places for a walk or bike ride along the trails of the Forest of Orléans, and several local stables can sort riding trips for you too if you prefer. To see the scenery at slower pace, organise a carriage ride in the area around the site, or head down to Sigloy (20 minutes’ drive) for a traditional boat trip along the River Loire.

While you’re by the Loire, you can also try a kayaking or canoeing trip (having practised your skills first on the lake by the site) or pay a visit to Château de Sully-sur-Loire (25 minutes), a grand medieval fortress with all the hallmarks of a classic castle (including moat, turrets and ramparts). The Musée de la Marine de Loire (15 minutes) and Fleury Abbey (20 minutes) are good places to visit too if you’re interested in the history of the area.

For a full day out, take a trip to Orléans (40 minutes) to visit the ornate cathedral, the Musée des Beaux-Arts and Parc Floral de la Source. It’s worth taking time to meander through the ancient streets too – and there's another lovely lake beach just outside the town if you need to cool off.
