On the outskirts of the village of Descartes (named after its most famous son, the mathematician René), Camping Onlycamp La Roseraie is a great spot from which to explore the historic region of Touraine. The peaceful dog-friendly site sits close to the Creuse river – indeed, it’s a short five-minute walk to the local watersports base, where you can hire a canoe or kayak to explore this waterway. Dotted with tall trees that provide welcome shade during the warm summer months, La Roseraie is a magnet for families: while the kids make new friends (with their contemporaries) in the play area or (with the resident donkeys) in the paddock, grown-ups can embrace a relaxed French lifestyle on the pétanque court or on leisurely riverside walks or cycle rides. Speaking of pedalling, active types might like to have a go at the greenway departing from Descartes and going all the way to Tournon-Saint-Pierre (1 hour and 40 minutes by bike) to the south. Among the great pleasures of being in France are the delicious breakfast pastries, and in high season, guests at La Roseraie can place an order for flaky, buttery croissants and crusty baguettes; meanwhile the on-site shop stocks local products and ice cream, plus a range of hot and cold drinks. For anything else you might need, there are shops in Descartes, plus a supermarket a five-minute drive away. In addition to hot-water showers and a toilet block (including a space reserved for guests with reduced mobility), the site has a launderette and a washing-up area.

Liked This is a budget campsite, close to the motorway, we didn't expect luxury. It is very simple but in a nice park with big old trees and feels really peaceful and safe. Play area in the park and even a pool (but we didn't use it). The host was the nicest and warm French person we've met on the whole trip this year ! Quite refreshing (it was our last stop )

Disliked The wash rooms had not lights, we washed out teeth in the dark :D

Liked Loved the site. The managers were so friendly. Quiet and relaxed. A 10 minute walk across the bridge to the boulangaire

Liked This campsite exceeded what i exoected, viginie was so lovely very responsive and helpful, the site was clean quiet and in the perfect location to explore sarlet le caneda .
The pool is the absolute icing in the cake for this site , it is stunning the views over a chateau plenty if shade and the cleanest pool ive seen . I woukd recommend this site everyone and will definatly be returning

Disliked The cockerels ! At 3.23am ..then regularly until dawn. Just unnecessary, next to a campsite in town.
I’d been woken by a camper van coming in at midnight too.
So a really disturbed night.

Disliked Booked this site because it had a pool but couldn’t use because it was closed and not open again until midday, the next day. Maybe advertise facilities open times.

Liked We had a fantastic 2 days here, very clean and tidy and very friendly staff, the pitches were very nice and spacious and plenty of shade, the showers were clean and well maintained, we did crazy golf which was good fun but also quite hard, the pool was good fun and desperately needed as it was 38°c
