  • Quiet family-friendly site on the edge of Brocéliande Forest, Brittany
  • Josselin and Ploërmel 10 minutes' drive; Gulf of Morbihan 55 minutes
  • Pool complex and games; snack bar, themed foodie evenings
Birdsong, the gentle burble of the river and the ringing of the village bell are all that you’ll hear when you stay at Camping La Vallée du Ninian, tucked into a leafy and peaceful setting on the edge of Brocéliande Forest in Brittany. The site is surrounded by an organic farm, and the resident dairy cows will no doubt tempt family or friends to stop and pet them every time they walk past. For such a rural spot, 10 minutes' drive away from the towns of Josselin and Ploërmel, there’s plenty going on. Feeding everybody is made very easy as there’s a snack bar and chippy, and local produce is sold at the grocery store, so you don’t need to worry about running out of anything. In high season, things go up a notch on the catering front with Breton crêpe and pancake evenings and entertainment. You can keep up your exercise regime with laps of the covered heated pool or, during high season, dips in the outdoor pool. There’s also a bowling alley, table football, ping-pong tables and Breton skittles games to keep everyone on their toes. Younger kids have the run of the play park, while families can hang out in the TV room, learn new board games and borrow books from the library. If that ain’t enough, the site owners can recommend hiking and cycling tours for all levels of ability, and you can also rent bikes for the whole family to explore this attractive corner of Brittany.

What customers say

This peaceful, rural campsite offers spacious, private pitches, very clean facilities including showers and toilets, and a popular swimming pool. Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful, with a welcoming atmosphere. Some guests noted issues with shower temperature controls, intermittent toilet paper availability, and Wi-Fi. One review mentioned rudeness from a male owner regarding noise from a large group booking, though this is not a widely reported concern. The site is considered a great find, recommended for its natural environment and proximity to local towns and attractions.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Swimming pool

Disliked Male owner extremely rude and dismissive when challenged about the 50-70 group booking meaning parties until midnight. (He was sat with them one of the evenings!!)

Push button one temperature only showers.

Bathroom facilities not cleaned regularly, checked but not cleaned.

Personally I felt this was an English vs French thing, the owner being French but personally I’ll be avoiding returning based on his attitude, a simple apology would have sufficed, not an argument.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Great little site, in the middle of shady green fields with a warm welcome and clean and efficient sanitaires. Cows in the next field - a real rural idyll! But it also has a swimmingpool

(Make sure you put the address of the site in your satnav correctly as it is ‘in the middle of nowhere’

Liked Friendly, helpful staff. Good system for ordering bread and croissants which were very good. Spotless facilities, decent showers, clean toilets. A little shop on site with the basics, cheese and wine 🤣. We stayed off season and enjoyed a peaceful atmosphere. The pool was a good size and very clean. We used the local bus service which was cheap. The locals helped us with our French. We would return but with our bikes so that we could get out more. There are 2 bars in the village.

Disliked Nothing to dislike about the site. It is quite rural so you need to plan shopping trips as there are no shops nearby.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked We called late in the day, for a one night campervan pitch - they let us arrive super late (10pm!) and leave early morning (7:30am) leaving the tourist tax through the office postbox on the way out. From hat we saw, this was a lovely quiet site (great dark sky location) with really good facilities, and very accommodating staff. Sorry that we had to rush off to catch a ferry & had not found this gem earlier in the week.

From the manager: Thank you for your opinion. We will be very happy to welcome you again at the campsite. Keep going, Sarah and Mathieu.

Local attractions

There’s no shortage of activities to do in the immediate area: Lac au Duc (10 minutes’ drive) has a beach ideal for picnics and summer activities like sailing, canoeing, water-skiing, paddleboarding and fishing. Golfers can practise their swing on the local nine-hole course (also 10 minutes), and the Hydrangea Trail (20 minutes) is a 50-km greenway suitable for cyclists and pedestrians. There are lots of showstopper Breton villages to explore too. Pretty Lizio (20 minutes) has cute cottages made from granite stone, the eccentric Museum of the Junkyard Poet featuring sculptures made from scrap metal, and Aventury - Escape Game Bretagne, giving kids the chance to chase mythical dragons. Hillside Rochefort-en-Terre (40 minutes) is one of the prettiest villages in Brittany, with a medieval church and lots of cafés in its scenic square. No sojourn in Brittany would be complete without a trip to a local food market, and luckily, you’ve got lots of choice. Monday morning could see you at Questembert (35 minutes), while there are several options for the weekend including Josselin (Saturday morning, 10 minutes), where you can also have a nose around the ornate riverside château, and Plélan-le-Grand (Sunday, half an hour).
