  • Peaceful rural setting on the edge of a popular fishing lake
  • Within an hour’s drive of south Brittany’s coastline
  • Playground plus seasonal bar with theme and live music nights
Fancy yourself as a fishing aficionado? Then you should most certainly angle for a stay at Camping Étang du Dordu, for it’s set prettily around the shores of Dordu lake, and set up splendidly for day and night fishing expeditions. Near the village of Langoëlan in rural Brittany, this comely and fishing-friendly site is set right on the edge of Dordu lake, a few minutes’ walk from the little village of Langoëlan and the banks of the Scorff river. Its peaceful setting comes with plenty of grassy and shaded areas set around the water’s edge, and the lake itself is filled to the gills with fishy specimens like pike, trout, tench and carp; if fishing does indeed float your boat, permits can be purchased from the friendly park team to fish by day or night. For activity on site otherwise, use the lake and the lush lands around it for strolls and somewhere to stretch out, or tramp the walking trail that runs around the lake’s perimeter. If you fancy branching out to the surrounding area, set off on foot or explore the Vallée du Scorff’s cycling trails: they’re plentiful and mighty pretty. A play area is on site to keep the tiddlers busy, and for all ages during high season the lakeside bar hosts regular social soirees centred around barbecues, theme nights and friendly pétanque and fishing tournaments. Music evenings of Breton folk songs, Irish trad and popular 80s tunes are all on offer too. For vittles and light refreshment, the on-site shop sells teas and coffees, ice creams and other snacks, boozy tipples like beer and wine, and freshly baked bread and other basics. Otherwise, head into the village for eats at the local pizzeria or at the traditional bistro instead.

Local attractions

Around 400 kilometres of walking and cycling trails lie around the pretty Vallée du Scorff area that surrounds the site – head out to explore on foot or talk to the friendly site team about hiring a bike nearby. Tiddlers and teens should be amused over at the paintball club that lies adjacent to the site, or if they’re squealing for a seaside day out, the fab beaches of the South Brittany coast are within an hour’s drive. Canoes and kayaks can be hired nearby, and watersports, cycle routes and horse riding can be found over at Guerlédan lake, half an hour’s drive from base.

Electric optional grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Didn’t get a chance to stay, arrived Sunday afternoon, called the numbers at reception, left a voicemail. Walked around the local lake for an hour and no reply. With my son with me we looked for a new site. No response to voicemails.

Disliked: Had spoken with new owners a couple of weeks before hand who advised booking would be ok and to pay remaining balance on arrival. No response on arrival.

Electric optional grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: Owners seemed nice and weee helpful, they have the bar down by the lake about 10 minutes walk away, so I'd it difficult to find them they will be working there, and it's worth a visit. The pitches are well spread out and have good easy access to the electric points. I don't think I saw it at its best in winter, but I think it would be a really nice site through the rest of the year

Disliked: The shower block is basic, as it is also shared as the dressing room for the football pitch that is by the entrance, but dont let that put you off as it is clean and functional. The building and floor were very cold, but I did visit in February. The main downside was that there as no easy access to a suitable tap to fill up the motorhome with water, you would need a very long hose and to run it to the dishwasher are.

From the manager: We have on site 3 toilets, 3 urinals, 8 showers, 4 hand wash basins , and an area for drying wet clothes etc. a fully functioning wet room with toilet for disabled use. A kitchen area with 4 sinks. There are 3 hardstanding with full electric hook up. At this time of year we keep the sliding door to the shower facilities closed but not locked to keep out the wind and rain. If you had contacted us on the number for reception, we are only 5 minutes away working in our bar on the lake and could of helped you and showed you round.

Quiet area but fairly poor site.

Liked: Peaceful

Disliked: Dated, tired site. No view of lake!!! (shown on site as view). Again several things shown on site not as per website, no shop, bread only available from cafe 5 mins away in village. Only 2 of the plots were on the flat, rest all on sloping grass bank (got stuck in muddy grass, had a job to get out). Children's play area was a concrete t/tennis table and a very sad looking seesaw. WiFi supposed to be 4G but had a job to get any decent signal. Owner Kevin v pleasant but site needs a lot of work.
