General

  • Family-friendly site in a valley beside the Nantes-Brest Canal
  • A kilometre from Chateaulin on the famed Crozon peninsula
  • Garden, shop, table tennis, fresh bread and croissants for sale

Frolic in Finistère at Camping La Pointe, a site that sits pretty in a small valley with spectacular views. You can soak up the vistas here from a very pleasant position indeed: the park has a handsome garden for guests’ use – where chickens roam freely – and is bordered by woods with red squirrels, deer and tawny owls hiding among the trees.

Cute critters spotted, head back to the park for amenities including a small shop selling essentials as well as fresh bread and croissants and an indoor communal area with a library and table tennis. The shower and toilet blocks are suitable for disabled guests, and wifi is spread over a large area to keep you connected with the outside world.

Not that you’ll have much time for web browsing: this site runs alongside Brittany’s Nantes-Brest Canal for salmon fishing, waterside walks, cycling tours and canoeing trips. Being on the outskirts of Chateaulin and at the edge of the famed Crozon peninsula home to craggy coastlines and teeny fishing towns, it’s also well placed for days out among historic villages and on white sandy beaches.

The nearest town, Saint-Coulitz, is two kilometres away and Chateaulin is less than a five-minute drive for your supermarket needs. Further afield, Quimper’s well-preserved old town is 25 minutes to the south.

Really lovely site. Pitches were large and well defined with hedges. Showers etc were plentiful and very clean.
We received a lovely welcome and plenty of information.

Ability to order fresh baguettes, croissants etc for breakfast was a nice touch.

Easy riverside walk into Châteaulin in about 30 mins (took longer with our dog!)

An excellent site and would recommend it highly.

    Disliked:

There is a road nearby but it wasn’t very busy and the noise wasn’t intrusive during our stay.

Such a clean and lovely site. Showers always clean and hot. Just lovely for a relaxing holiday. Vicky and her husband are lovely and always around if you have any problems (we had to call out AA to the site!). The site is close to the river with a path so I had plenty of choice to run and walk. Some campers swam in the river. Chataulin is 1.5km walk on the riverside. Great Thursday market in Chataulin.

We are so pleased we selected this site for a 5-night stay with our campervan. The location is beautiful, the site and facilities clean and well maintained and the welcome from the owners warm and friendly. The level pitches are a good size with hedges for privacy. There is no noisy entertainment but a weekly pancake evening in season in keeping with the low-key and laid-back atmosphere. The chickens will take care of your food scraps - don't worry, there's no noisy cockerel! The owner offered to help us erect our awning on a gusty day, not something you might expect everywhere and an indication of the personal attention given to guests at this lovely site.

    Disliked:

Hard to fault this site in any way. The valley location does mean some pitches are shaded by trees for parts of the day, but that could be a blessing on hot summer days and wind shelter might be welcome in poor weather. If a sunny pitch is important then just ask in your booking and you will probably be accommodated.

Very friendly management team. Tried too hard to please everyone.

    Disliked:

Pampered a little too much to some guests unrealistic expectations. Everyone is on holiday and entitled to enjoy themselves.

From the manager...

Thank you for your great rating.
We are sorry we had to ask you to turn your music down after a complaint from another camper, even though it wasn't particularly loud. They were trying to settle their children down for bedtime and as we said at the time, we have try and keep everyone happy. Thank you for your understanding and we hope it didn't spoil the last night of your stay with us.
We would be very happy to welcome you back if you are in Brittany again.

Best campsite in France!13/07/2019

Saying this is the best campsite in France is a big statement, but that is simply what it is. Tucked away close to the Crozon Peninsula in Châteaulin this camping was located central to many interesting sites such as Locranon, the town of Quimper, Morgat, Brest and some beautiful nature spots. The owners, Vikki and Mike, are incredible hospitable and take great pride in their camping. They offer great facilities (the best we've come across), a games room, large pitches with a bit of shade, a pontoon for river swimming, a veggie garden with produce you can purchase or herbs free for the taking and an overall quiet and relaxed atmosphere. If you are in the area definitely stay here!

Local attractions

Pleyben with its famed 16th-century parish is 15 minutes’ drive from the site, while medieval meandering can be had in Locronan within 20 minutes, a small town founded by an Irish missionary.

Another lovely locale for a wander is the port town of Douarnenez 30 minutes away; settle down here at one of the coffee shops to spy boats toing and froing from one of the four harbours. The port museum is where you can inspect similar vessels inside a wet dock created to simulate life at sea.

Alternatively, cross the water – without setting foot on a ship – to Tristan Island just off Douarnenez’s coast. This place of nature and a ruined fort is reachable only at low tide: sign up for a trip at the tourist office and its guides will make sure you get back to the mainland safe and sound.

To take to the ocean for real, make your way to Kervel (25 minutes away) or journey a further 15 to Plage des Sables Blancs for white sands, beach volleyball and watersports rentals. If built-up beaches aren’t your bag the wilder Saint-Jean is a kilometre away along the coastal path...
