  • Family-friendly site in a valley beside the Nantes-Brest Canal
  • A kilometre from Chateaulin on the famed Crozon peninsula
  • Garden and shop; fresh bread, croissants and eggs sold in high season
Frolic in Finistère at Camping La Pointe, a site that sits pretty in a small valley with spectacular views. You can soak up the views here from a very pleasant position indeed: the park has a handsome garden for guests’ use – with chickens roaming freely – and is bordered by woods with red squirrels, deer and tawny owls hiding among the trees. Cute critters spotted, head back to the park for amenities including a small shop selling essentials as well as fresh bread and croissants and an indoor communal area with a library and table tennis. For more games, there's pétanque on site; the winners can celebrate at the small licensed bar (losers might as well join – you're on holiday, after all…). Elsewhere, the on-site shower and toilet blocks are suitable for disabled guests. Brittany’s Nantes-Brest Canal runs opposite the entrance to the site, providing a great space for salmon fishing, waterside walks, cycling tours and canoeing trips. Being on the outskirts of Chateaulin and at the edge of the famed Crozon peninsula, home to craggy coastlines and teeny fishing towns, it’s also well placed for days out among historic villages and on white sandy beaches. The nearest town, Saint-Coulitz, is two kilometres away and Chateaulin is less than a five-minute drive away for your supermarket needs. Further afield, Quimper’s well-preserved old town is 25 minutes to the south.

What customers say

This beautifully maintained, peaceful woodland campsite is situated by a canal, offering a lovely rural setting with easy access to coastal walks and towns. Guests consistently praise the exceptionally friendly and helpful English-speaking hosts, the spacious and private grass pitches, and the immaculate facilities. Highlights include fresh bread daily, a welcoming bar with WiFi, and convenient access to local attractions and amenities. Some minor points mention lukewarm shower water and Wi-Fi availability only in the bar area, though these do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Electric optional grass pitch (large)

Liked Great welcome from Mike and Vicki. The grass pitches were beautiful and virtually level with privacy hedging and electric point and water close by. Quiet and friendly site. Deliciously fresh eggs laid daily and available to buy. Croissants ordered locally were the best ones I tasted all holiday. Beautiful sandy beaches within cycling or driving distance. We loved the Crozon artisan market on 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month. Amazing coastal walk Tour de Crozon -Pointe de Pen-Hir -Pointe du Grand Gouin was a highlight. The bar is always open and has Wifi.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Pitches well set out with hedges for privacy. As we were staying for 7 nights we were given a pitch away from the ‘one/two nighters’ which made it peaceful for us - very considerate of owner. Facilities v good and a good location. Also the site has very good drainage as we were there during a big rainstorm - but did not float away!!! Having shower unit for people with disabilities - again very good.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Approaching La Pointe camp site you first have to drive along side the river which is stunning.
The site is set at the bottom of a valley and surround by trees.
Most of the pitches had a slight slope and some were on the smaller side. Ours was enormous.
They are mainly grass and a little spongy so you need levelling blocks. A one way track takes you around the site which is gravel.
You do need a torch as it can be dark in places but the light pollution is low so the night sky is amazing with owls calling in the trees.
The facilities were spotless and whenever we saw Vicki she was always cleaning.

Local attractions

Pleyben, with its famed 16th-century parish church, is 15 minutes’ drive from the site, while medieval meandering can be had in Locronan within 20 minutes, in a small town founded by an Irish missionary. Another lovely locale for a wander is the port town of Douarnenez, 30 minutes away; settle down here at one of the coffee shops to spy boats toing and froing from one of the four harbours. The port museum is the place to inspect similar vessels inside a wet dock created to simulate life at sea. Alternatively, cross the water – without setting foot on a ship – to Tristan Island just off Douarnenez’s coast. This place of nature with a ruined fort is reachable only at low tide: sign up for a trip at the tourist office and its guides will make sure you get back to the mainland safe and sound. To take to the ocean for real, make your way to Kervel (25 minutes away) or journey a further 15 to Plage des Sables Blancs for white sands, beach volleyball and watersports rentals. If built-up beaches aren’t your bag, the wilder Saint-Jean is a kilometre away along the coastal path.
