L'Orangerie de Lanniron: Aerial view of the site

General

  • Brittany wildlife haven within walking distance of Quimper
  • Set in a former bishops' palace with orangery and 17th-century gardens
  • Nine-hole golf course, tennis and summer bar and restaurant

One can't get much more swish on a Brittany holiday site than this: over 36 hectares of parks and gardens in the former summer palace of the Bishops of Quimper.

L'Orangerie de Lanniron is also near the sea and the banks of the River Odet, and is used as a Breton base for those who like historic sites, wildlife watching, watersports and all sorts of other activities (and relaxation): tennis courts, horse riding, cycling and an adventure swimming pool with wellness complex are all nearby.

All is superly swish on site too, with a most scenic orangery as well as 17th-century gardens in the French style that lead down three levels to the river and include exotic trees, château gardens, terraces, ponds, flowers, fruit trees and vegetable plots.

Guests have the use of a tennis court, a nine-hole golf course and driving range, a restaurant and a bar open from mid-May to the beginning of September. A kids' club runs in July and August for les enfants.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/07 and 31/08.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The pool was fantastic for the family and the tree top nets were great fun for children. Beautiful gardens and 2nd pitch was spacious.

    Disliked:

Booked a premium pitch and they tried to put us on a pitch that wouldn't fit a caravan and awning. No water, electricity or the extras on the pitch so stated we had to be moved. No security, weddings are obviously more important than the campsite. No evening entertainment or staff around the site. No shop, no snack bar and only toilet at pool was in there restaurant. Electricity kept tripping (even when sleeping) and there was no sense of a family run business. Had to pay for WiFi, it was implicated that free on pitch.
This campsite could be incredible!! It's stunning! However, we won't be back and unfortunately it wasn't the experience we expected it to be. So sad for such a magnificent place.

Lovely grounds, and use of some of the amenities. Especially liked the games room with old fashioned wooden games. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Felt very private on our pitch. Good restaurant but a bit pricey.

    Disliked:

Would have preferred for the men's toilets to be open instead of making the ladies mixed. Could do with a bit of pruning to tidy the site up. No shop on site

Local attractions

Lovely medieval Quimper, ye olde city of art and history, is within walking/cycling distance of L'Orangerie de Lanniron via the pedestrian footpath or cycle path accessible from the site. It's probably the most traditional area of traditional Bretagne and quite the place to wander around for the day seeing its medieval sites, Cathedral St Corentin and fine art museum (sample many galettes while here too…).

Another swimming pool, this one with a 60-metre waterslide, is within a short distance, or you could hire a bike, go fishing, go bowling or take to the water in a kayak or boat trip among the wooded valley, châteaux and parks of the River Odet.

Benodet, about 10 kilometres from Quimper, has a popular family-friendly beach in Trez as well as a few smaller stretches of sand; take a trip from Benodet too if you want to visit the Glénan Islands, or take a boat across the harbour to see the small old village of Sainte Marine.
