  • Brittany wildlife haven in a historic estate with a park
  • Leisure activities and a nine-hole golf course on the estate
  • In South Finistère, within walking distance of Quimper city centre
Check this out: a 110-acre family estate in Quimper with a 17th-century park and gardens and lots of leisure activities, not least a nine-hole golf course with a driving range and a gym. This Brittany site has a water park spread out over a 600-square-metre space, an indoor swimming pool, a net course in the trees (that alone covers 350 square metres too), a mini farm, a wooden games room, a miniature golf course, tennis, a zip line course (for an additional cost) and activities like a treasure hunt. Tuck into a dish at the restaurant, called Au potager de Lanniron, or the snack bar. There’s also a small convenience store on site. L'Orangerie de Lanniron is near the sea and the banks of the River Odet, and is used as a base for those who like historic sites, wildlife watching, watersports and all sorts of other activities (and relaxation): tennis courts, horse riding, cycling and an adventure swimming pool with wellness complex are all nearby. It’s just 15 to 25 minutes’ drive from the beaches of Sainte-Marine, Kermor and Bénodet. The 17th-century gardens in the French style that lead down three levels to the river and include exotic trees, château gardens, terraces, ponds, flowers, fruit trees and vegetable plots. Guests have the use of a tennis court, a nine-hole golf course and driving range, a restaurant and a bar open from mid-May to the beginning of September. A kids' club runs in July and August for kids.

Liked: Everything about the site. The site was level all round and the cleanliness of the shower block and washing up area was first class. The staff were friendly and always on hand for any queries you may have. I would definitely recommend the site for all ages and would like to return next year to see how the site has changed as there was lots of tree felling and work going on near the woods and stream. Each pitch was level and enclosed by shrubs and trees and not too close to the next pitch. All in all a well maintained and managed site.

Disliked: There was nothing to dislike but I feel it would benefit for a small enclosed dog play area to let the dogs off lead for a little run around and a dog waste bin.

Electric grass and earth pitch (large)

Liked: When we arrived we were at first disappointed that our pitch was completely in shade all day due to being surrounded by tall trees, We had requested an open sunny pitch. As there seemed to be plenty available we went to reception and asked if it was possible to change. The lady we spoke to was extremely helpful and the result was we got the perfect pitch for us. The shower/toilet facilities were probably the best I have experienced in 12 years of touring. Individual cabins with toilet, washbasins, and a fab shower with lovely hot water. The swimming pools were really great too.

Disliked: No complaints apart from the shop/snack bar was advertised as 7 days a week and we checked this on the Saturday but it was actually closed all day Sunday which caught us out a bit.

Fully-serviced grass and earth pitch (large)

Liked: Wonderful site with very lovely and helpful owners. Shower / toilet block was exceptionally clean and continuously monitored by staff throughout the day. Great facilities, both outdoor and covered pool, plenty of games, tennis court etc. Easy access to town and its shopping, bars and restaurants by bike (15 minutes) and on foot (20-25 minutes). Onsite var and restaurant very good with wonderful service from lovely staff. We stayed her for 3 nights in the third week of a motorhome tour around France and this was by far tge nicest camp we stayed in...

Disliked: None. Seriously!!!

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful site, and the gardens were lovely to walk around, being on the river's edge. We had to move pitch initially due to our cable being to short to reach the only available electric hook up, but that was handled quickly for us. Walk into Quimper is pretty, and free from traffic. The old part of town is well worth a visit. The swimming pools on site were good and not crowded. Shower blocks very clean, never crowded and lots of hot water. Activities in high season looked good, as did the forest tree walk. Everything clean and tidy. Small shop on site with the essentials, although a little pricy. Easy to drive to the coast as well. Would recommend.

Disliked: The reception block was a long walk from the camping area (especially on the morning when they forgot to take the cover off the pool- a very long walk to inform reception staff!) One night there was a private party at the pool next to reception- this was incredibly loud and went on into the small hours of the morning, and was easily audible even from the campsite part. There was a broken soap dispenser by the communal handbasin in shower block, which was not fixed all week, so if you wanted to wash your hands after using the loos, you had to take your own soap. There were some heavy groundworks going on, on the edge of the site, which resulted in a great deal of wet mud all over the road on the way in to the campsite, and you had to pick your way through this if you wanted to access the only bin site on foot.

Fully-serviced grass and earth pitch (large)

Liked: Excellent spacious pitches. Good showers/toilet/washing up block. Individual units with toilet, shower & 2 sinks. Pools very good. Good location with easy access on foot/bike to Quimper.

Disliked: Early September & definitely felt like end of the season. Toilets were neglected and no soap in dispensers.Sadly there was a Redbull Kickoff event the time we stayed which put a dampener on things somewhat. Large party of French teenagers who partied hard until 3am. Wish we had known this was taking place when we booked. No WiFi at pitch unless you pay extra.

Electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The facilities were brilliant, bathroom area was super, liked the individual little bathrooms that they had, it was really convenient. Check in was great, host was attentive and efficient. Camping is located in walking distance to the town centre, lovely grounds, quiet and peaceful. Has good public transport to town.

Disliked: It seems that we may have picked up some cockroaches during our stay as we had found two in the tent on the day of departure as we were packing up. Told reception, showed picture, we were told they are only garden bugs... I don't think there are garden roaches, such as. We also found one in the car after crossing the chanel on the ferry :( WiFi is free only in the reception area, on the pitch is payable.

Local attractions

Lovely medieval Quimper, ye olde city of art and history, is within walking/cycling distance of L'Orangerie de Lanniron via the pedestrian footpath or cycle path accessible from the site. It's probably the most traditional area of traditional Bretagne and quite the place to wander around for the day seeing its medieval sites, Cathedral St Corentin and fine art museum (sample many galettes while here too…). Another swimming pool, this one with a 60-metre waterslide, is within a short distance, or you could hire a bike, go fishing, go bowling or take to the water in a kayak or boat trip among the wooded valley, châteaux and parks of the River Odet. Benodet, about 10 kilometres from Quimper, has a popular family-friendly beach in Trez as well as a few smaller stretches of sand; take a trip from Benodet too if you want to visit the Glénan Islands, or take a boat across the harbour to see the small old village of Sainte Marine.
