  • Leafy family-friendly site overlooking the Bay of Térénez in Brittany
  • GR34 access from site; Roscoff 40 minutes’ drive; Ploumanac’h an hour
  • Heated pool and bar-restaurant with sea views; entertainment in summer
With a wonderful location at the crossroads between Brittany’s Pink Granite Coast, the Monts d’Arrée hills and the Léon region in western Finistère, Camping de la Baie de Térénez is a family site with spacious landscaped pitches tucked under trees for shade. The crescent-shaped, pebbled Plage de Térénez is but five minutes’ drive away; alternatively you have a heated swimming pool and paddling pool for toddlers on site, both open from May to mid-September. There’s a communal barbecue area and a snack bar with a poolside terrace that has views over the namesake bay. Here you can kickstart the day with fresh pastries and coffee, order a takeaway service or sit down to family favourites like pizzas or roast chicken in high season. The summer also brings themed Breton pancake nights, live music events and pétanque tournaments, as well as Sunday welcome drinks for new arrivals on site. During July and August, families can also make good use of the games room with a pinball machine, pool table and video games. Things to make your life go smoothly whenever you stay include a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer, the latest sports events in the TV room, and board games and books in the library corner. A playground, bouncy castle and a ping-pong table are also always available, along with a mini-golf course and the pétanque alley.

Local attractions

Discover one of the mysteries of Brittany close to base camp: half an hour’s stroll takes you to the cairn at Barnenez, a hulking stone long barrow overlooking the Bay of Térénez. Jump in the car to admire the massive granite slabs of the Dolmen de Kérangouez (25 minutes’ drive), and make a day of it with a potter around the palms, cacti and tropical plants at Roscoff’s Jardin Exotique et Botanique (40 minutes). The dramatic seascapes of the Pink Granite Coast are also yours to explore, stretching east from the popular kitesurfing spot of Plestin-les-Grèves (20 minutes). Visit Ploumanac’h (an hour), the former fishing village where red-tinged boulders pile prettily on the beach, or tour the megaliths, ancient chapels and tidal mill on the many beaches around Trégastel (55 minutes). Outdoorsy types can access the coastal GR34 Custom Officers’ Path directly from the campsite, while sailing, diving, snorkelling, fishing and horse riding are available within 20 minutes’ drive. There are also several oyster farms and seafood restaurants within about the same distance.
