‘Proximity to the beach’ usually comes pretty high up on wishlists for Finistère family holidays – and that feature is well and truly ticked at Camping Paradis La Mer d’Iroise. This well-equipped site is a mere 150 metres from the beach, a few minutes’ drive west of Plomodiern.
How you choose to make the most of that location is up to you – sandy Plage de Lestrevet stretches out over almost three kilometres, so there’s plenty of space for sunbathing as well as more active times at the local watersports centre (which is a few minutes’ walk away for paddleboarding, kayaking and surfing).
Of course, when you’re on holiday there may be days when even walking that far seems a bit too much, so it’s handy to know that there’s plenty to keep you entertained on site too, including an aquatic area with a heated covered pool, a covered paddling pool, a small outdoor pool and waterslides.
Beyond that, there’s also a multisports court, a pétanque court and two play areas – and in the summer months you’ll also be able to add in kids’ club activities and various family entertainments. Eating’s a good way to pass the time too, whether you settle in at the restaurant or rent a barbecue and get the grill going. A shop on site sells groceries and has a delivery of fresh bread and pastries each morning.
Meanwhile, if you do choose to leave the site, a good way to get around is to hire e-bikes on site and head out on the GR34 cycle path (100 metres away). Whatever you get up to in the area, it’s handy to know there’s a laundry back on site, plus bathrooms for all (even dogs, who have their own ‘canibain’ for a warm bath).

Local attractions
A short stroll to the beach gives you access to a whole lot of activities, including paddleboarding, kayaking, sand yachting and paragliding (or simply paddling and messing about in the sand…). The nearby GR34 bike path runs along the length of the Brittany coast, so you could also set off for cycle rides long or short to see some of the seaside scenery.
Elsewhere along the coast, you can go scuba diving in Douarnenez (25 minutes’ drive) or find fishing spots along the shoreline. There are some great coastal hikes around the Crozon Peninsula (25 minutes), taking you to spots like Cap de la Chèvre and Pointe des Espagnols.
If you’d like to see marine life without donning scuba kit, head to L’Aquashow in Audierne (45 minutes) or Océanopolis in Brest (50 minutes). For a heritage-themed day out instead, drive to Quimper (35 minutes) to see the castle, cathedral and half-timbered houses.

Liked Staff very friendly. Can hear the sound of the waves at night time. Beautiful location. Lots of things for children to do. Indoor swimming pool was great for the couple of rainy days we had and the slides were fantastic. Essentials available on site. Toilets are clean. Showers are nice, warm and powerful 👍
Disliked Toilet blocks were odd in that women have to walk into the men's urinal area to wash hands. I recommend taking hand wash and use the washbasins like the women in our group did. Minor inconvenience.

Liked Everywhere was lovely and clean and well maintained, staff all very helpful and friendly, fab location, lovely feel to it!!
Disliked The only thing would be the toilets next to the pool could probably do with an update/deep clean and whilst we’re cleanish were abit smelly (the camping facilities recently upgraded were fab!)
